Belt MaintenanceInspecting the BeltsService Interval: Every 25 hours—Check the belts forwear/cracks.Check the belts for cracks, frayed edges, burn marks, or anyother damage. Replace damaged belts.Replacing the TransmissionBelt1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage theblade, and engage the parking brake.2. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position, removethe key, and disconnect the spark plug wire from thespark plug.3. Raise the machine using a hoist or jackstands.4. Remove the transmission belt from the pulleys.6. Wrap the new transmission belt around the clutch,transmission, and tension pulleys (Figure 32).7. Install the extension spring onto the tension arm.Replacing the Mower Belt1. Park the machine on a level surface, disengage theblade, and engage the parking brake.2. Turn the ignition key to the OFF position, removethe key, and disconnect the spark plug wire from thespark plug.3. Raise the machine using a hoist or jackstands.4. Remove the transmission belt; refer to Replacing theTransmission Belt (page 26).5. Detach the extension spring (Figure 34).CAUTIONThe spring is under tension when installedand can cause personal injury.Wear safety glasses and be careful whenremoving the spring.26
