37TroubleshootingPROBLEM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTIONThe starter does not crank. 1. The electrical connections arecorroded or loose.1. Check the electricalconnections for good contact.2. A fuse is blown or loose. 2. Correct or replace the fuse.3. The relay or switch isdamaged.3. Contact your AuthorizedService Dealer.4. The battery is discharged. 4. Charge the battery or replaceit.5. A damaged starter or startersolenoid.5. Contact your AuthorizedService Dealer.6. Seized internal enginecomponents.6. Contact your AuthorizedService Dealer.The engine cranks, but will notstart.1. Incorrect starting procedure. 1. Refer to Starting andStopping the Engine, page20.2. The fuel tank is empty. 2. Fill with fresh fuel.3. The fuel shut-off valve isclosed.3. Open the fuel shut-off valve.4. Dirt, water, stale fuel, orincorrect fuel is in the fuelsystem.4. Drain and flush the fuelsystem; add fresh fuel.5. Clogged fuel line. 5. Clean or replace.6. There is air in the fuel 6. Bleed the nozzles and checkfor air leaks at the fuel hoseconnections and fittingsbetween the fuel tank andengine.7. Inoperative glow plugs. 7. Check the fuse, glow plugsand wiring.
