See the operatinginstruction supplied with the transmitterfor the connection and operation of thetransmitter.• To prevent your ears from being damaged,first lower the volume.1 Turn on the audio/video componentconnected to the transmitter.2 Turn on the headphones.The power indicator on the upper part ofthe right housing glows red.3 Put on the headphones.Be sure to put the right housing (R) onyour right ear and the left housing (L) onyour left ear.4 Start playback of the componentconnected to the transmitter.5 Adjust the volume.If the infrared sensors are covered byyour hands when adjusting the volume,the mute function will be activated andvolume may not be adjusted. To adjustthe volume, move nearer toward thetransmitter or orient the infrared emitterson the left housing towards thetransmitter.Sound is automatically muted if noiseincreases— Mute functionIf the infrared rays are obstructed, or theheadphones are used outside their effectiverange, noise will increase and sound willbecome hard to hear. To avoid potential eardamage as a result of noise, this functionmute any sound from the headphones.Sound is automatically restored when youmove nearer the transmitter or remove theobstruction.After listening to the programmesTake off the headphones, and then turn offthe power. (You may hear some noise whenyou disconnect the AC power adapter fromthe transmitter before taking off theheadphones.)Welcome!Thank you for purchasing the Sony MDR-IF140 Cordless Stereo Headphone. Beforeoperating the unit, please read this manualthoroughly and retain it for future reference.The MDR-IF140 is a cordless stereoheadphone using infrared transmission. Youcan enjoy listening to a programme free fromthe restriction of the headphone cord bysimply connecting the transmitter (optional)to a TV, or audio components equipped witha headphone jack or a line output jack.• Cordless, noiseless infrared headphoneresistant to external noise, etc.• Self-adjusting headband mechanismeliminating the need for headbandadjustment.• Single VOL control adjusts both the rightand left volume of the headphones.• This unit can be used with the Sonycordless headphone system.Use the MDR-140 with the optionaltransmitter.The MDR-140 Headphone should be usedwith the Sony optional cordless stereoheadphone system (except MDR-IF630RK).N Getting startedInserting thebattery1 Open the battery compartment lid ofthe left housing.2 Insert the size AAA dry battery intothe battery compartment matching3 terminal on the battery to 3 inthe compartment.3 Close the battery compartment lid.Battery life*1 at 1 kHz, 1 mW+1 mW output*2 Time stated above may vary, depending on thetemperature or conditions of use.Notes on Battery• Do not charge the dry battery.• Do not carry the dry battery together withcoins or other metallic objects.
