You should exerciseextreme caution or discontinue use in potentiallyhazardous situations.Preventing hearing damageAvoid using headphones at high volume.Hearing experts advise against continuous, loudand extended play. If you experience a ringing inyour ears, reduce the volume or discontinue use.Caring for othersKeep the volume at a moderate level. This willallow you to hear outside sounds and to beconsiderate of the people around you.On the MiniDisc cartridge• Do not break open the shutter.• Do not place the cartridge where it will besubject to light, temperature, moisture ordust.On cleaning• Clean the player casing with a soft cloth slightlymoistened with water or a mild detergentsolution. Do not use any type of abrasive pad,scouring powder or solvent such as alcohol orbenzene as it may mar the finish of the casing.• Wipe the disc cartridge with a dry cloth toremove dirt.• Dust on the lens may prevent the unit fromoperating properly. Be sure to close the disccompartment lid after inserting or ejecting anMD.Notes on the batteriesIncorrect battery usage may lead to leakage ofbattery fluid or bursting batteries. To preventsuch accidents, observe the followingprecautions:• Install the + and – poles of the batteriescorrectly.• Do not try to recharge the batteries.• When the player is not to be used for a longtime, be sure to remove the batteries.• If a battery leak should develop, carefullyand thoroughly wipe away battery fluidfrom the battery compartment beforeinserting new ones.Note on mechanical noiseThe player gives out mechanical noise whileoperating, which is caused by the power-saving system of the player and it is not atrouble.If you have any questions or problemsconcerning your player, please consult yournearest Sony dealer.TroubleshootingShould any problem persist after you havemade these checks, consult your nearest Sonydealer.The player does not work or workspoorly.• You tried to play with no disc in theplayer (“No DISC” flashes).b Insert an MD.• The player is locked.b Slide HOLD against the arrow tounlock the player.• Moisture has condensed inside theplayer.b Take the MD out and leave theplayer in a warm place for severalhours until the moisture evaporates.• The rechargeable battery or dry batteryis weak (n“LoBATT” flashes).b Replace the dry battery or rechargethe battery.• The rechargeable battery or dry batteryhave been installed incorrectly.b Install the battery correctly.• An MD with no recording on it isinserted (“BLANK” flashes).b Insert a recorded MD.• The player cannot read the disc (it’sscratched or dirty) (“ERROR” on theremote control flashes).b Reinsert or replace the disc.• While operating, the player received amechanical shock, too much static,abnormal power voltage caused bylightning, etc.b Restart the operation as follows.1 Disconnect all the power sources.2 Leave the player for about 30seconds.3 Connect the power source.The MD is not played normally.•The player is set to the repeat mode(“f“ is displayed).b Press PLAY MODE repeatedly until“f“ disappears, then startplaying.An MD is not played from the first track.• Disc playing stopped before it came tothe last track.b Press = repeatedly or eject andreinsert the MD once to go back tothe beginning of the disc, and restartplaying after checking the tracknumber in the display.Playback sound skips.• The player is placed where it receivescontinuous vibration.b Put the player on a stable place.A very short track may cause soundto skip.Sound has a lot of static.• Strong magnetism from a television orsuch device is interfering withoperation.b Move the player away from thesource of strong magnetism.No sound comes through theheadphones.• The headphones plug is not firmlyconnected.b Connect the headphones plug firmlyto the remote control.
