DSX-GS80/M8014Sony CONFIDENTIALFor Authorized Servicer(DSX-GS80: US, CND)Memory hold connectionWhen the yellow power supply lead isconnected, power will always be supplied tothe memory circuit even when the ignitionswitch is turned off.Speaker connection• Before connecting the speakers, turn theunit off.• Use speakers with a 2 Ω impedance or 4 Ωto 8 Ω impedance, and with adequatepower handling capacities to avoiddamage.Subwoofer Easy ConnectionYou can use a subwoofer without a poweramplifier when it is connected to a rearspeaker lead.To enable the connection, set [SUBW MODE]in [SUBW DIRECT] to [1] to [3].NoteUse a subwoofer with a 2 Ω impedance or 4 Ω to 8Ω impedance, and with adequate power handlingcapacities to avoid damage.Speaker Parallel ConnectionWhen making the speaker parallelconnection for a high volume playback, besure to:– Set [SPEAKER LOAD] in [GENERAL] to[2 OHM].Notes• When using a subwoofer with dual voice coil, orusing a subwoofer by connecting the right and leftrear speaker leads, be sure to set [SPEAKER LOAD]in [GENERAL] to [2 OHM].• To exert the speaker’s potential, make the powerconnection to the battery directly.To capture your voice during handsfreecalling, you need to install the microphone.Front speakerSubwooferFL FRRR RLFront speaker(4 Ω to 8 Ω)Rear speaker(4 Ω to 8 Ω)Subwoofer(4 Ω to 8 Ω, dual voicecoil type)Installing the microphoneClip (not supplied)Cautions• It is extremely dangerous if the cordbecomes wound around the steeringcolumn or gearstick. Be sure to keep it andother parts from interfering with yourdriving operations.• If airbags or any other shock-absorbingequipment is in your car, contact the storewhere you purchased this unit, or the cardealer, before installation.When using the steering wheel remotecontrolInstallation of the connection cable RC-SR1(not supplied) is required before use.1 To enable the steering wheel remotecontrol, select [STEERING] [EDIT CUSTOM]to make the registration.When the registration completes, the steeringwheel remote control becomes available.Notes on installing the connection cableRC-SR1 (not supplied)• Refer to the support sites on the back cover fordetails, then connect each lead properly to theappropriate leads. Making an improperconnection may damage the unit.• Depending on the type of car, be sure to insulatethe unused leads with electrical tape for safety.• Do not connect this cable when the steering wheelremote control is not used.• Consulting the dealer or an experiencedtechnician for help is recommended.When using the wired remote control1 To enable the wired remote control, set[STRG CONTROL] in [STEERING] to [PRESET].InstallationBefore installing the unit, remove the trimring and the mounting sleeve from theunit.1 Pinch both edges of the trim ring ,then pull it out.2 Insert both release keys until theyclick, and pull down the mountingsleeve , then pull up the unit toseparate.Using the wired remote controlRemoving the trim ring and themounting sleeveFace the hook inwards.• Before installing, make sure the catches onboth sides of the mounting sleeve arebent inwards 2 mm ( 3/ 32 in).• For Japanese cars, see “Mounting the unitin a Japanese car”.Mounting the unit in thedashboardCAUTIONDo not touch the left side of the unit whenremoving from the dashboard. Theheatsink on the left side of the unitremains hot right after use.Notes• When mounting on the dashboard, remove thevisor clip carefully from the microphone , thenattach the flat-mount base to the microphone.• Before attaching the double-sided tape cleanthe surface of the dashboard with a dry cloth.2 Mount the unit onto the mountingsleeve , then attach the trim ring.Notes• If the catches are straight or bent outwards, theunit will not be installed securely and may springout.• Make sure the 4 catches on the trim ring areproperly engaged in the slots of the unit.Mounting the unit in a Japanese carYou may not be able to install this unit insome makes of Japanese cars. If the fuseblows, check the powerconnection and replace thefuse. If the fuse blows again afterreplacement, there may be an internalmalfunction.
