The charge status appearsin the iPod/iPhone display. For details, see the user’sguide of your iPod/iPhone.To stop charging the iPod/iPhoneRemove the iPod/iPhone. Turning off the system alsostops charging the iPod/iPhone.Notes When placing or removing the iPod/iPhone, handle the iPod/iPhonein the same angle as that of the iPod/iPhone connector on the unitand do not twist or sway the iPod/iPhone to prevent connectordamage. Do not carry the unit with an iPod/iPhone set on the connector.Doing so may cause a malfunction. When placing or removing the iPod/iPhone, brace the unit with onehand and take care not to press the controls of the iPod/iPhone bymistake. Before disconnecting the iPod/iPhone, pause playback. Hold down /  to fast-forward (fast-rewind) whileplaying video if /  does not function. When the iPhone is connected to the system and you receive a callduring playback, playback will pause and you can take an incomingcall. To change the volume level, use VOLUME +/ . You can select normal play (“ ” for all filesin the folder on the USB device), shuffle play (“SHUF” or“ SHUF”), or program play (“PGM”).Note on Repeat Play“REP” indicates that all audio files on a USB device are repeated untilyou stop playback.Getting StartedUnitRemoteThis manual mainly explains operations using theremote, but the same operations can also be performedusing the buttons on the unit having the same or similarnames.To use the remoteSlide and remove the battery compartment lid, and insertthe two supplied R6 (size AA) batteries,  side first,matching the polarities shown below.Notes on using the remote With normal use, the batteries should last for about six months. Do not mix an old battery with a new one or mix different types ofbatteries. If you do not use the remote for a long period of time, remove thebatteries to avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion.When carrying this systemUse buttons on the unit.1 Remove a disc to protect the CD mechanism.2 Press FUNCTION  repeatedly to select the CDfunction.3 While holding down TOOL MENU , hold down (power)  until “STANDBY” appears.4 After “LOCK” appears, unplug the power cord.To set the clock1 Press   to turn on the system.2 Press TIMER MENU  to select the clock set mode.If “PLAY SET?” flashes, press /  repeatedly toselect “CLOCK SET?,” and then press (enter) .3 Press /  repeatedly to set the hour, then press.4 Use the same procedure to set the minutes.NoteThe clock settings are lost when you disconnect the power cord or if apower failure occurs.To display the clock when the system is offPress DISPLAY . The clock is displayed for about8 seconds.Reception of DAB/DAB+ radio station(CMT-MX550i only)When you turn on the system for the first time afteryou purchase the system, DAB Automatic Scan startsautomatically and creates a list of available services.During the DAB Automatic Scan, “ ” appears.Do not press any button on the unit or the remoteduring DAB Automatic Scan. Scanning is interruptedand service list may not be created properly. To run theDAB Automatic Scan manually, perform the procedureof “Running the DAB Automatic Scan manually” in“Listening to the radio.” If you have moved to anotherarea, perform the DAB Automatic Scan manually andre-register the contents of broadcasts. FM antennaFind a location and an orientation that provide goodreception, and then set up the antenna.Keep the antennas away from the speaker cords and thepower cord to avoid picking up noise. PowerConnect the power cord to a wall outlet.The demonstration appears in the display. Whenyou press  , the system turns on and thedemonstration automatically ends.If the plug does not fit the wall outlet, detach the suppliedplug adaptor (only for models equipped with an adaptor). DAB antenna (CMT-MX550i only)With a DAB external antenna (not supplied), you canobtain higher DAB/DAB+ broadcast sound quality. Werecommend that you use the supplied FM/DAB leadantenna only temporarily until you install a DAB externalantenna. SpeakersConnect the speaker cords to the SPEAKERS jacks onthe unit.Except for North American model, connect the other endof the speaker cords to the terminals on the speakers asshown below.Insert only the stripped portionof the speaker cords.Red ()Notes on playing multisession discs If the first session on the disc is a CD-DA session, the other sessionson the disc cannot be recognized regardless of the session format;only CD-DA tracks in the first session can be played back. If the session format for the first session is CD-ROM and thefollowing sessions are recorded in the same format, the system willcontinue to play back MP3 files accordingly in multiple sessionsuntil the system encounters another session recorded in a differentformat.Listening to the radioNote that the reception of RDS services is only availablefor European model, and the DAB/DAB+ tuning is onlyavailable for CMT-MX550i.1 Select “DAB” or “FM.”Press FUNCTION +/  repeatedly.2 Perform tuning.For automatic scanningPress TUNING MODE  repeatedly until “AUTO”appears, and then press +/ . Scanning stopsautomatically when a station is tuned in, and“TUNED” and “STEREO” (for stereo programs only)light up in the display.If “TUNED” does not light up and the scanningfor an FM station does not stop, press   to stopscanning, then perform manual tuning (below).When you tune in a DAB/DAB+ station or an FMstation that provides RDS services, the service nameor station name appears on the display.For manual tuning (FM band only)Press TUNING MODE  repeatedly until “AUTO”and “PRESET” disappear, and then press +/ repeatedly to tune in the desired station.Notes on DAB/DAB+ stations When tuning in a DAB/DAB+ station, it may take a few secondsbefore you hear any sound. Primary service is automatically received when secondary serviceends. This tuner does not support data services.TipTo reduce static noise on a weak FM stereo station, press FM MODE repeatedly until “MONO” appears to turn off stereo reception.Running the DAB Automatic Scan manually1 Press FUNCTION +/  repeatedly to select “DAB.”2 Press TOOL MENU  to start the DAB AutomaticScan.“Init Scan?” and “Push ENTER” appear.3 Press  to perform scanning.Scanning begins. The scanning progress is indicatedby advancing squares ( ). Depending on theDAB/DAB+ services available in your area, scanningmay take a few minutes.When scanning is complete, a list of available servicesis created.Notes If your country or region does not support DAB/DAB+ broadcast,“No Service” appears. This procedure clears all previously stored presets. Before unplugging the DAB/FM antenna, make sure the system isturned off to preserve your own DAB/DAB+ settings.Presetting radio stations1 Tune in the desired station.2 Press TUNER MEMORY  to select the tunermemory mode.3 Press +/  repeatedly to select the desired presetnumber.If another station is already assigned to the selectedpreset number, the station is replaced by the newstation.4 Press  to store the station.5 Repeat steps 1 through 4 to store other stations.You can preset up to 20 DAB/DAB+ and 20 FMstations.6 To call up a preset radio station, press TUNINGMODE  repeatedly until “PRESET” appears, andthen press +/  repeatedly to select the desiredpreset number.Note on presetting DAB/DAB+ stationsYou can preset a DAB/DAB+ service only when it can be received.Playing a CD/MP3 disc1 Select the CD function.Press FUNCTION +/  repeatedly.2 Place a disc.Press  (open)  on the unit, and place a disc withthe label side up on the disc tray .To close the disc tray, press   on the unit.3 Start playback.Press  (play) .Other operationsTo PressPause playback  (pause) . To resume play, pressthe button again.Stop playback  (stop) .Select a folder onan MP3 disc (select folder) +/ repeatedly.Select a track orfile (go back)/ (go forward).Find a point in atrack or fileHold down  (rewind)/ (fastforward)  during playback, andrelease the button at the desiredpoint.Select Repeat Play REPEAT  repeatedly until “REP”or “REP1” appears.To change the play modePress PLAY MODE  repeatedly while the player isstopped. You can select normal play (“ ” for all MP3files in the folder on the disc), shuffle play (“SHUF”or “ SHUF*” for folder shuffle), or program play(“PGM”).* When playing a CD-DA (audio) disc, (SHUF) Play performs thesame operation as normal (SHUF) Play.Notes on Repeat Play All tracks or files on a disc are played repeatedly up to five times. “REP1” indicates that a single track or file is repeated until you stopplayback.Note on shuffle play modeWhen you turn off the system, the selected shuffle play mode (“SHUF”or “ SHUF”) is cleared and the play mode returns to normal playmode (“ ”).Notes on playing MP3 discs Do not save other types of tracks or files, or unnecessary folders on adisc that has MP3 files. Folders that have no MP3 files are skipped. MP3 files are played back in the order that they are recorded ontothe disc. The system can only play MP3 files that have a file extension of“.mp3”. Even when file name has the “.mp3” file extension, if the actualfile differs, playing this file may generate a loud noise which coulddamage the speaker system and the system may malfunction. The maximum number of:folders is 255 (including the root folder).MP3 files is 511.MP3 files and folders that can be contained on a single disc is 512.folder levels (the tree structure of files) is 8. Compatibility with all MP3 encoding/writing software, recordingdevice, and recording media cannot be guaranteed. Whenusing an iPod model, use the Dock Adapter suppliedwith your iPod. When using an iPhone model, use theDock Adapter supplied with the system.
