© 2004 Sony Corporation Printed in Korea3-263-425-11 (1)Caut ions• This unit is designed for negative ground 12 V DCoperation only.• Do not get the leads under a screw, or caught inmoving parts (e.g. seat railing).• Before making connections, turn the car ignitionoff to avoid short circuits.• Connect the yellow and red power input leadsonly after all other leads have been connected.• Run all ground leads to a common groundpoint.• Be sure to insulate any loose unconnected leadswith electrical tape for safety.• The use of optical instruments with this productwill increase eye hazard.Notes on the power supply lead (yellow)• When connecting this unit in combination withother stereo components, the connected carcircuit’s rating must be higher than the sum ofeach component’s fuse.• When no car circuits are rated high enough,connect the unit directly to the battery.Part s Iist (1)• The numbers in the list are keyed to those in theinstructions.• The bracket 1 and the protection collar 3 areattached to the unit before shipping. Beforemounting the unit, use the release keys 5 toremove the bracket 1 and the protection collar 3from the unit. For details, see “Removing theprotection collar and the bracket (4)” on thereverse side of the sheet.• Keep the release keys 5 for future use as theyare also necessary if you remove the unit fromyour car.Caut ionHandle the bracket 1 carefully to avoid injuringyour fingers.NoteBef ore inst alling, make sure t hat t he cat ches on bot hsides of t he bracket 1 are bent inw ards 2 mm (3/32 in). Fordet ails, consult your dealer.• A pow er ant enna w it hout a relay box cannot be usedw it h t his unit .M emory hold connectionWhen t he yellow pow er input lead is connect ed, pow erw ill alw ays be supplied t o t he memory circuit even w hent he ignit ion sw it ch is t urned of f .Notes on speaker connection• Bef ore connect ing t he speakers, t urn t he unit of f .• Use speakers w it h an impedance of 4 t o 8 ohms, andw it h adequat e pow er handling capacit ies t o avoid it sdamage.• Do not connect t he speaker t erminals t o t he carchassis, or connect t he t erminals of t he right speakersw it h t hose of t he lef t speaker.• Do not connect t he ground lead of t his unit t o t henegat ive (–) t erminal of t he speaker.• Do not at t empt t o connect t he speakers in parallel.• Connect only passive speakers. Connect ing act ivespeakers (w it h built -in amplif iers) t o t he speakert erminals may damage t he unit .• To avoid a malf unct ion, do not use t he built -in speakerleads inst alled in your car if t he unit shares a commonnegat ive (–) lead f or t he right and lef t speakers.• Do not connect t he unit ’s speaker leads t o each ot her.Note on connectionIf speaker and amplif ier are not connect ed correct ly,“ Failure” appears in t he display.
