If thisequipment does cause harmful interference toradio or television reception, which can bedetermined by turning the equipment off andon, the user is encouraged to try to correct theinterference by one or more of the followingmeasures:— Reorient or relocate the receiving antenna.— Increase the separation between theequipment and receiver.— Connect the equipment into an outlet on acircuit different from that to which thereceiver is connected.— Consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician for help.You are cautioned that any changes ormodifications not expressly approved in thismanual could void your authority to operatethis equipment.CAUTIONThe use of optical instruments with this productwill increase eye hazard.Resetting the unitBefore operating the unit for the first time or after replacing the car battery, you must reset the unit.Press the reset button with a pointed object, such as a ball-point pen.Notes• Pressing the reset button will erase the clock setting and some memorized program and memory functions.• When you connect the power supply cord to the unit or reset the unit, wait for about 10 seconds before youinsert a disc. If you insert a disc within these 10 seconds, the unit will not be reset, and you will have to pressthe reset button again.Reset buttonPrecautions• This unit cannot be used with a car audiowithout an FM tuner.• If your car was parked in direct sunlightresulting in a considerable rise in temperatureinside the car, allow the unit to cool off beforeoperating it.• If no power is being supplied to the unit,check the connections first. If everything is inorder, check the fuse.•Connecting this unit may cause some carbattery wear when your car has no ACC(accessory) position on the ignition key switch.If you have any questions or problemsconcerning your unit that are not covered in thismanual, please consult your nearest Sony dealer.Notes on handling CDsA dirty or defective disc may cause sounddropouts while playing. To enjoy optimumsound, handle the disc by its edge. To keep thedisc clean, do not touch the surface.Do not stick paper or tape on the labeledsurface.Do not expose the discs to direct sunlight or heatsources such as hot air-ducts, or leave them in acar parked in direct sunlight where there can bea considerable rise in temperature inside the car.Before playing, clean the discs with acommercially available cleaning cloth. Wipeeach disc from the center out.Do not use solvents such as benzine, thinner,commercially available cleaners, or antistaticspray intended for analog discs.Notes on discsIf you use the discs explained below, the stickyresidue can cause the CD to stop spinning andmay cause malfunction or ruin your discs.Do not use second-hand or rental CDs that havea sticky residue on the surface (for example frompeeled-off stickers or from ink, or glue leakingfrom under the stickers.There are paste residueInk is stickyDo not use rental CDs with old labels that arebeginning to peel off.Stickers that are beginningto peel away, leaving asticky residueDo not use your CDs with labels or stickersattached.Labels are attachedNotes on CD-R discs•You can play CD-Rs (recordable CDs) on thisunit. However depending on the conditions ofthe recording equipment or the CD-R discitself, some CD-Rs cannot be played on thisunit.•You cannot play a CD-R that is not finalized(Finalization is necessary for a recorded CD-Rdisc to be played on the audio CD player).•You cannot play CD-RWs (rewritable CDs) onthis player.When you play 8 cm (3 in.) CDsUse the optional Sony compact disc singleadapter (CSA-8) to protect the CD player fromdamage.Notes on moisture condensationOn a rainy day or in a very damp area, moisturemay condense on the lenses inside the CDplayer. Should this occur, the unit will notoperate properly. In this case, remove the discand wait for about an hour until the moistureevaporates.MaintenanceFuse replacementWhen replacing the fuse, be sure to use onematching the amperage rating stated on theoriginal fuse. If the fuse blows, check the powerconnection and replace the fuse. If the fuseblows again after replacement, there may be aninternal malfunction.
