37Play speed Total playing time of the CD when playedback at the selected speedPlayback speedTime data of the track when playedback at the selected speedChanging the Playback Speed (Vari Speed Play)The playing time can be adjusted by varying theplayback speed within a range of ±12.5%. When theplayback speed is set lower than 0%, the pitch falls;when it is set higher than 0%, the pitch rises. Theselected speed is memorized even after Vari SpeedPlay is turned off. When you select Vari Speed Playagain, the player begins playing in the selected speed.NoteWhile the player is playing in Vari Speed Play, digitalaudio devices connected to the player may not receivedigital signals from the player properly. In this case,connect the player to analog audio devices.Varying the playback speed onthe player1 Press the VARI SPEED button.The V.SPEED indicator lights up in the displayand the current setting of the playback speedappears for about four seconds.2 Rotate the AMS control while pressing down theVARI SPEED button to select the playback speed,and then release the VARI SPEED button.The playback speed can be adjusted in 0.5%intervals.While changing the playback speed, the displayshows the information depending on the status ofthe player as follows:While the player is stoppedWhile the player is playing or pausedNoteIf while the V.SPEED indicator is lit you press downthe VARI SPEED button and then release it withoutselecting a playback speed, the indicator turns off andVari Speed Play is canceled.To resume normal playPress the VARI SPEED button to turn off theV.SPEED indicator.Varying the playback speed withthe remote1 Press the VARI SPEED ON/OFF button.The V.SPEED indicator lights up in the display.2 Press the VARI SPEED +/– buttons repeatedly toselect the playback speed.The playback speed can be adjusted in 0.5%intervals.To resume normal playPress the VARI SPEED ON/OFF button to turn off theV.SPEED indicator.To change the playback speed by menuoperation1 Press the VARI SPEED button (or VARI SPEEDON/OFF button on the remote) to turn on theV.SPEED indicator in the display.2 Press the MENU/EXIT button, rotate the AMScontrol until “Variable” appears in the display, andthen press the control.
