Setting up the machine2.6 Measuring the workpiece zeroMilling78 Operating Manual, 02/2012, 6FC5398-7CP40-3BA05. Click in the selection field "Spindle rotation" entry "Yes" if you want toperform the "Calibration with rotation".6. Press the key.Calibration is automatically executed at the measuring feedrate. Thedistance measurements between the machine zero and tool probe arecalculated and stored in an internal data area.2.6 Measuring the workpiece zero2.6.1 OverviewThe reference point for programming a workpiece is always the workpiece zero. You candetermine the workpiece zero on the following workpiece elements:● Edges, (Page 88)● Corner (Page 91)● Pocket and hole (Page 94)● Spigot (Page 100)Measuring methodsYou can measure the workpiece zero either manually or automatically.Manual measurementTo measure the zero point manually, you need to traverse your tool manually up to theworkpiece. You can use edge probes, sensing probes, or dial gauges with known radii andlengths. You can also use any other tool of which you know the radius and length. The tools used for measuring must not be electronic probes.Automatic measurementFor automatic measurements, only use the electronic workpiece probe, tool type 710/712.You must first calibrate the electronic workpiece probe. In the case of automatic measuring, first position the workpiece probe manually. Afterstarting using the key, the workpiece probe is automatically extended tothe workpiece with the measuring feedrate. Retraction motion from the measuring point isrealized as a function of the setting data with the rapid traverse velocity or a user-specificpositioning velocity.
