To do so:1 Slide the FULL AUTO switch to OFF.2 Press the FOCUS button on the top of thecamcorder. The "MANUAL FOCUS" will appeari n the viewfinder.3 Press the zoom button (T) to zoom i n .4 Focus the scene by pressing the FOCUS F (far)or N (near) button below the viewfinder.5 Press the zoom button (W) t o compose thepicture .omWhen the s u bject is within approximately 1 . 5 m , and thelens is zoomed in, it may not be possible to focus clearly.In this case, zoom out all the way (press W for wideangle), and then focus once again.BACKLIGHT COMPENSATIONThis camcorder has Auto Exposure, which automatically adjusts to the scene's brightness. However, ifthe subject is backl it or i n a shadow, the subjectmay be too dark. In this case, BLC (Back LightCompensation) will prevent the subject fromappearin g dark.Press and hold the BLC/GAIN-UP button for BLC.The " � " i n d icator appears in the viewfinder. I nt h i s mode, t h e i ris opens about 1 F stop more thanin the normal mode.GAIN-UP"LIG HT" is displayed in the viewfinder when youshoot a scene that is too dark. If the BLC/GAIN-UPbutton is pressed, the scene becomes brighter andthe " '(]).& " is displayed in the viewfinder toindicate that the Gain-up mode is engaged . Whenthe subject becomes brighter, gain-up disengagesand " 'CDlD " disappears.• In the Gain-up mode, there is more picture noise.• If power is interrupted or the camcorder is switched tothe VCR mode, the Gai n - u p mode will be cancelled.34
