5Formatting the drives and re-installing Windows1. Make sure the computer is turned off.2. If any peripheral devices are connected to your computer, disconnect them.3. Connect the AC adapter; then, turn on the computer.Be sure to connect the AC adapter. If the battery is completelydischarged, the installation process will be canceled.4. When the message to enter System Configuration Utility appears, pressF2. The Setup Utility opens.5. Insert the Product Recovery CD-ROM disk 1 into the Optical drive.6. In the Exit menu, select Load Setup Defaults; then, press Enter twice.7. In the Exit menu, confirm Exit Saving Changes is highlighted and press Entertwice. The system restarts.8. Read the message on the screen; then, press Enter.9. Read the message on the screen and select Continue; then, press Enter.Although the pointer may be shown on the screen, never touch thekeyboard or the glide pad during recovery except when the messageprompts you to. If you touch them, the re-installation will be canceled.10. If you see the message asking you to replace the CD-ROM, remove the ProductRecovery CD-ROM disk 1 and insert the Product Recovery CD-ROM disk 2;then, click OK.11. If you see the message asking you to replace the CD-ROM, remove the ProductRecovery CD-ROM disk 2 and insert the Product Recovery CD-ROM disk 3;then, click OK.12. If you see the message The hard disk has been recovered successfully, theOptical drive will be opened automatically. Remove the Product Recovery CD-ROM disk 2. The system restarts automatically.13. Set up Windows XP, following the instructions on the screen. Make sure to setdate and time. When you finish the setup, the recovery is completed.
