1USING YOUR DIGITAL CAMERASAFELY AND CORRECTLYi Before using your camera, please read and understand these safetyinstructions as well as the instruction manual for your camera.i Keep all manuals in a safe place for later reference.i These safety instructions cover both the camera and its accessories.Depending on which product was purchased, the camera specificationsand accessories may differ.SAFETY MANUALCAUTIONS CONCERNING BOTH CAMERA AND ACCESSORIESWARNINGk If a device makes a strange noise, emits a strange odor, orif smoke comes out from it, immediately turn off the powerand proceed as followsi If a device is used under these conditions, it may cause afire or electric shock.1 Turn off the device.2 When use the docking station or AC adaptor/charger,unplug the power cord from the power outlet.3 Remove the battery.i After completing these actions, wait to make sure no moresmoke comes from the device. Then take it to the dealer forservice. Do not try to repair or open the device yourself.k Do not use during a stormi To avoid the risk of being struck by lightning, do not use thedevices during a thunderstorm. In particular, if used in anopen field, you have an increased chance of being struck bylightning. Quickly seek refuge in a place that will protect youfrom lightning.k Keep the devices out of the reach of childreni The following may happen if children play with the devices:h They may wrap the neckstrap around their neck andsuffocate.h They may swallow the battery or other small parts. Insuch a case, consult a physician immediately.h They may damage their eyesight if the flash goes off tooclose to their eyes.h They may get hurt by the camera or other devices.k Do not disassemble or modifyi It is dangerous to touch the inside of the devices. Doing somay cause a fire or electric shock.i The camera, especially, incorporates high-voltage circuits.i Any internal check, setting, or repair should be performedby the dealer.i Do not use the AC adaptor as a direct current generator.CAUTIONS CONCERNING THE CAMERAWARNINGCAUTIONk Do not use while drivingi Do not capture images, play back images, or watch the LCDmonitor while driving a vehicle. Doing so may cause anaccident.i Be careful where you put down the camera inside anautomobile. During sudden stops or turns it may fall behindthe brake pedal and prevent braking.k Be aware of your surroundings when using the camerai Pay close attention to your surroundings when using thecamera. Failure to do so may lead to an accident or injury.i When using the camera while walking, be very careful ofyour surroundings and especially the traffic to avoidaccidents.i Do not use the camera inside an airplane or elsewherewhere its use may be restricted. Doing so may cause anaccident.k Do not get the camera weti This camera is not water-resistant. Do not allow it to getwet, as doing so may cause a fire or electric shock.i Do not use the camera in a bathroom.i If the camera gets wet, immediately turn it off and removethe battery pack. Then take it to a dealer for repair. Usingthe camera after it has been become wet may cause a fire,electric shock, or other accident.k Do not place on an unstable surfacei The camera may fall, resulting in damage to the camera orinjury.i If the camera has fallen and its body is damaged, turn it off,remove the battery pack, and take it to the dealer for repair.Using the camera after its body has been damaged maycause a fire or electric shock.k Do not look through the camera into the suni Do not look through the camera at the sun or any otherstrong source of light. Doing so may seriously injure youreyes.k Do not use the flash close to a person’s facei To prevent possible eye injury, do not use the flash near aperson’s face. If the flash is used close to a person’sopened eyes, there is a risk that it may damage thatperson’s eyesight. Especially with young children or babies,use the flash from a distance of at least 1 meter away.k Do not use where there is risk of explosioni Do not use the camera in a location where there isexplosive gas, or any other flammable material in the air.Doing so may cause a fire or an explosion.k Cautions when carrying the camerai Do not walk around with the camera suspended from yourneck or dangling from your wrist. It may hit other objectsand get damaged. When walking around, hold the camerain your hand or place it in a pocket.i Be careful not to drop the camera or subject it to strongshocks.i Make sure direct sunlight does not hit the camera lens, asthat may damage the internal parts. When not using thecamera, be sure to always turn it off and confirm that thelens is covered.k If the camera is not going to be used for a long period oftimei For safety’s sake, remove the battery pack from the camera.This will prevent any possible excess heat or leakage ofbattery fluid that may result in injuries or damage to nearbyobjects.k Cautions during use and storagei This camera is a precision instrument. It should not be usedor stored where there are extreme changes in temperatureor humidity, or where it may be exposed to water or dust.k Do not cover or wrap the camera in a cloth or blanketi It may generate heat and cause the casing to warp or causea fire.Operating environment:i Temperature 0 to 40°C (32 to 104°F) (operation)–20 to 60°C (–4 to 140°F) (storage)i Humidity 30 to 90% (operation, no condensation)10 to 90% (storage, no condensation)
