18 EnglishOperationsResidual heat indicatorWhen an individual cooking zone or the cooktop is turned off, the presenceof residual heat is shown with an (for “hot”) in the digital display of theappropriate cooking zone. The residual heat indicator goes out only after thecooking zone has cooled.You can use the residual heat to thaw food or keep food warm.WARNINGAs long as the residual heat indicator is illuminated, there is a risk of burns.WARNINGIf the power supply is interrupted, the symbol will go out and informationabout residual heat will no longer be available.However, you may still be able to burn yourself. This can be avoided by alwaystaking care when near the cooktop.Cooking areas• The cooking areas on your cooktop are identified by permanent circles on theglass cooking surface. For the most efficient cooking, fit the pan size to theelement size.• Pans should not extend more than ½˝ to 1˝ beyond the cooking area.• When a control is turned on, you can see a glow through the glass cookingsurface. The element will cycle on and off to maintain the preset heat setting,even at high settings.• For more information on selecting proper types of cookware, refer to thesection “Using the proper cookware”.Initial cleaningWipe the ceramic glass surface with a damp cloth and ceramic cooktop glasscleaner.WARNINGDo not use caustic or abrasive cleaners. The surface could be damaged.OperationsSwitching the appliance onTurn the cooktop on by touching thePOWER key for approximately 1 second.NOTEAfter you have touched the POWER key to switch on your cooktop, you mustselect an element and power setting within approximately 20 seconds.
