Terminology480i / 480p / 720p / 1080i /1080p____ Each of the scanningrates above refers to the number ofeffective scanning lines that decidesthe screen resolution. The scanningrate may be indicated in i (interlaced)or p (progressive), depending on thescanning method.- ScanningScanning refers to a process of sendingpixels that form an image progressively.A larger number of pixels will deliver aclearer and more vivid picture.- ProgressiveIn progressive scan mode, all linesof pixels are scanned one by one(progressively) on the screen.- InterlacedIn interlaced scan mode, every otherline of pixels is scanned from top tobottom first and then the remaininglines of pixels (that were not scanned)are scanned.Non-interlace Mode and InterlaceMode____ Non-interlace mode(progressive scan) displays a horizontalline from the top to the bottom of ascreen progressively. Interlace modedisplays the odd number lines firstand the even number lines next. Non-interlace mode is mainly used inmonitors as it produces screen clarityand interlace mode is mainly used inTVs.Dot Pitch____ The screen consist ofred, green and blue dots. A shorterdistance between the dots produces ahigher resolution. Dot pitch refers to thedistance between the shortest distancebetween dots of the same colour. Dotpitch is measured in millimeters.Vertical Frequency____ The productdisplays a single image many timesper second (like a fluorescent light thatflickers) to display an image for a viewerto see. The rate of a single image beingdisplayed repeatedly per second iscalled vertical frequency or refresh rate.Vertical frequency is measured in Hz.E.g. 60Hz refers to a single image beingdisplayed 60 times in one second.Horizontal Frequency____ The timerequired to scan a single line from theleft to the right side of the screen iscalled a horizontal cycle. The reciprocalnumber of a horizontal cycle is calledhorizontal frequency. Horizontalfrequency is measured in kHz.Source____ Input source refers to avideo source device connected to theproduct such as a camcorder or videoor DVD player.Component ports (green, blue andred)____ The component ports, whichidentify, transmit and receive contrastsignals, provide superior picture qualityto any other video connection methods.Plug & Play____ Plug & Play is afunction that allows the automaticexchange of information between amonitor and PC to produce an optimumdisplay environment. The product usesVESA DDC (international standard) toexecute Plug & Play.Resolution____ Resolution is thenumber of horizontal dots (pixels) andvertical dots (pixels) that form a screen. It represents the level of display detail.A higher resolution enables moredata to be displayed on the screenand is useful to perform multiple taskssimultaneously.E.g. A resolution of 1920 X 1080 consistsof 1,920 horizontal pixels (horizontalresolution) and 1,080 vertical pixels(vertical resolution).DVD (Digital Versatile Disc)____ DVDrefers to a CD-sized mass storage diskwhere you can save multimedia (audio, video or game) applications usingMPEG-2 video compression technology.HDMI (High Definition MultimediaInterface)____ It is an interface thatcan be connected to a digital audiosource as well as a high-definition videosource by using a single cable withoutcompression.Multiple Display Control (MDC)____MDC (Multiple Display Control) is anapplication that allows multiple displaydevices to be controlled simultaneouslyusing a PC. Communication betweena PC and monitor takes place usingRS232C (serial data transmission) andRJ45 (LAN) cables. |
