Chooseone according to your speaker environment or the source.1 While listening to a source, press the listening modebutton repeatedly to select a listening mode you want.• The listening mode is shown on the display on the frontpanel.Important• The listening modes and many features described in thissection may not be available depending on the currentsource, settings and status of the receiver.Auto playbackThe simplest, most direct listening option is the AUTOSURROUND feature. With this, the receiver automaticallydetects what kind of source you’re playing and selectsmultichannel or stereo playback as necessary.• Press AUTO/DIRECT repeatedly until AUTO SURROUNDshows briefly in the display (it will then show the decodingor playback format). Check the digital format indicators inthe display to see how the source is being processed.Note• Stereo surround (matrix) formats are decodedaccordingly using NEO:6 CINEMA (see Listening insurround sound below for more on these decodingformats).Listening in surround soundUsing this receiver, you can listen to any source in surroundsound. However, the options available will depend on yourspeaker setup and the type of source you’re listening to.• If the source is Dolby Digital, DTS, or Dolby Surroundencoded, the proper decoding format will automaticallybe selected and shows in the display.When you select STEREO ALC (Auto Level Control stereomode), this unit equalizes playback sound levels if eachsound level varies with the music source recorded in aportable audio player.When you select STEREO, you will hear the source throughjust the front left and right speakers (and possibly yoursubwoofer depending on your speaker settings). DolbyDigital and DTS multichannel sources are downmixed tostereo.The following modes provide basic surround sound for stereoand multichannel sources.Explanatory notesNo: No connected / Yes: Connected / Two: Two speakers areconnected / –: Whether connected or noa.
