20Please advise the customer on the correct use of the appliance with the fuels likely to be used on the stove and warnthem to only use the recommended fuels for their specific stove.Advice the user on what to do should smoke or fumes be emitted from the stove. The user should be warned to usea fireguard to BS 8423:2010+A1:2016 in the presence of children, aged and/or infirm persons.Hunter Stoves Group also recommend that a CO alarm is fitted into the room where the appliance is located.Flue DraughtIf the draught exceeds the recommended maximum, a draught stabiliser must be fitted so that the rate of burningcan be controlled and to prevent over firing.If the reading is less than the recommended minimum, then the performance of the appliance will be compromised.The flue draught should be checked under fire at high output with windows and doors closed. To take the readingcover the front of the stove with a non-flammable board and put a hole that the probe can go through.Minimum Draught – 1.2mm Water GaugeMaximum Draught – 2.5mm Water GaugeThe Clean Air Act 1993 And Smoke Control AreasUnder the Clean Air Act local authorities may declare the whole or part of the district of the authority to be a smoke control area. It is anoffence to emit smoke from a chimney of a building, from a furnace or from any fixed boiler if located in a designated smoke control area. It isalso an offence to acquire an "unauthorised fuel" for use within a smoke control area unless it is used in an "exempt" appliance ("exempted"from the controls which generally apply in the smoke control area).In England appliances are exempted by publication on a list by the Secretary of State in accordance with changes made to sections 20 and 21of the Clean Air Act 1993 by section 15 of the Deregulation Act 2015. In Scotland appliances are exempted by publication on a list by ScottishMinisters under section 50 of the Regulatory Reform (Scotland) Act 2014. Similarly, In Northern Ireland appliances are exempted bypublication on a list by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs under Section 16 of the Environmental Better regulationAct (Northern Ireland) 2016.In Wales appliances are exempted by regulations made by Welsh Ministers.Further information on the requirements of the Clean Air Act can be found here: https://www.gov.uk/smoke-control-area-rulesYour local authority is responsible for implementing the Clean Air Act 1993 including designation and supervision of smoke control areas andyou can contact them for details of Clean Air Act requirements.The Aspect wood burning stoves have been recommended as suitable for use in smoke control areas. Suitable Authorised fuels can also beused in the appliances in Smoke Control Areas (see Authorised fuel list https://smokecontrol.defra.gov.uk/fuels.php ) (Applies only if amultifuel conversion kit is installed).Refuelling on to a low fire bedIf there is insufficient burning material in the firebed to light a new fuel charge, excessive smoke emission can occur. Refuelling must be carriedout onto a sufficient quantity of glowing embers and ash that the new fuel charge will ignite in a reasonable period. If there are too fewembers in the fire bed, add suitable kindling to prevent excessive smoke.Fuel overloadingThe maximum amount of fuel specified in this manual should not be exceeded, overloading can cause excess smoke.Operation with door left openOperation with the door open can cause excess smoke. The appliance must not be operated with the appliance door left open except asdirected in the instructions.Dampers left openOperation with the air controls or appliance dampers open can cause excess smoke. The appliance must not be operated with air controls,appliance dampers or door left open except as directed in the instructions.Operating InstructionsRead the ‘General Guidance’ section at the start of these instructions before operating your stove for the firsttime.Allow sufficient clearance between the stove and pictures, plasma screen televisions or ornaments etc., as thesecould be damaged and could potentially create a fire hazard (For more information read the ‘Material Clearance’section of these installation instructions). WARNING – This appliance will be hot when in operation and due careshould be taken. The supplied operating tool or gloves may be used to open the door and operate the air controls. |
