- 2 -TC-21FX30LA/LP / TC-29FX30LA/LPImportant Safety NoticeSpecial components are used in this television set which are important for safety. These parts are identified on the schematicdiagram by the symbol . It is essential that these critical parts are replaced with the manufacturer’s specified replacementparts to prevent X-ray radiation, shock, fire or other hazards. Do not modify the original design without manufacturer’s permission.!An Insulation Transformer should always be used during theservicing of a receiver whose chassis is not insulated from theAC power line. Use a transformer with adequate power ratingas its protects the technician from accidents resulting in personalinjury from electrical shocks. It will also protect the Receiverfrom being damaged by accidental shorting that may occurduring servicing. When servicing, observe the original lead dress, especially inthe high voltage circuit. Replace all damaged parts (also partsthat show signs of overheating.)Always Replace Protective Devices, such as fishpaper, insulation resistors and capacitors, and shields after servicingthe Receiver. Use only manufacturer’s recommended rating forfuses, circuit breakers, etc.High potentials are present when this Receiver is operating.Operation of the Receiver without the rear cover introducesdanger from electrical shock. Servicing should not be performedby anyone who is not thoroughly familiar with the necessaryprecautions when servicing high-voltage equipment.Extreme care should be practiced when Handling the PictureTube. Rough handling may cause it to implode due toatmospheric pressure (14.7 lbs per sq. in). Do not sick or scratchthe glass or subject it to any undue pressure. When handling, use safety goggles and heavy gloves for protection. Dischargethe picture tube by shorting the anode to chassis ground (not tothe cabinet or to other mounting hardware). When dischargingit, connect cold ground (i.e. dag ground lead) to the anode witha well insulated wire or use a grounding probe.Avoid prolonged exposure at close range to unshielded areasof the picture tube to prevent exposure to X-ray radiation. The Test Picture Tube used for servicing the chassis at thebench should incorporate safety glass and magnetic shielding. The safety glass provides shielding for the tube viewing areaagainst X-ray radiation as well as implosion. The magneticshield limits X-ray radiation around the bell of the picture tube inaddition to restricting magnetic effects. When using a picturetube test jig for service, ensure that the jig is capable of handling31kV without causing X-ray radiation. Before returning a serviced receiver to the owner, the servicetechnician must thoroughly test the unit to ensure that iscompletely safe to operate. Do not use a line insulationtransformer when testing.Warning !It is essential that these critical parts are replacedwith the manufacturer’s specified replacement partsto prevent X-ray radiation, shock, fire or other haz-ards.!General GuidelinesABOUT LEAD FREE SOLDER (PbF) ............................................ 3SUGGEST PbF SOLDER ............................................................... 3HOW TO RECOGNIZE THAT PB FREE SOLDER IS USED ....... 3SAFETY PRECAUTIONS ................................................................ 4GP41 CHASSIS FEATURE SUMMARY ......................................... 5IC601 - BLOCK DIAGRAM .............................................................. 6IC601 - PINS DESCRIPTION ........................................................ 6VOLTAGE TABLES ........................................................................... 8GP41 CHASSIS BLOCK DIAGRAM ............................................... 9SERVICE HINTS .............................................................................. 10FACTORY MODE ADJUSTMENT ................................................... 10HOW TO OPERATE THE CONTROLS IN SERVICE MODE ..... 11HOW TO ACCESS THE MEMORY MAPS ................................... 12COLOUR PURITY AND CONVERGENCE ADJUSTMENT ....... 20CRT VRS ADJUSTMENT ................................................................ 22RF AGC ADJUSTMENT ................................................................... 23VIF DETECTOR OUTPUT LEVEL CONFIRMATION .................. 23BUZZING CONFIRMATION (AUDIO CIRCUIT) ........................... 23ANODE AND HEATER VOLTAGE CONFIRMATION ................... 23PAL COLOR OUTPUT SIGNAL ADJUSTMENT ......................... 24NTSC SUB-TINT CALIBRATION ................................................... 24PROTECTION CIRCUIT (SHUTDOWN) ...................................... 24CONFIRMATION OF OPERATION ................................................. 24SUB-BRIGHT AND SUB-CONTRAST CALIBRATION ................ 25FOCUS CALIBRATION .................................................................... 25PURITY CALIBRATION .................................................................. 25WHITE QUALITY CALIBRATION .................................................... 26CRT CUT OFF VOLTAGE ADJUST .............................................. 26WHITE BALANCE CALIBRATION .................................................. 26DEFLECTION CALIBRATION AND CONFIRMATION ................. 27MAIN BOARD CIRCUIT LAYOUT .................................................. 29“L” BOARD SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM (TC-21FX30LA / LP) ......... 30“L” BOARD SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM (TC-29FX30LA / LP) ......... 31“G” BOARD SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM (TC-29FX30LA / LP) ........ 32“A” BOARD SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM (TC-21FX30LA / LP) ......... 33“A” BOARD SCHEMATIC DIAGRAM (TC-29FX30LA / LP) ......... 34WAVEFORM CHART ........................................................................ 35EXPLODED VIEW ............................................................................ 38MECHANICAL PARTS LIST ........................................................... 39ELECTRICAL PARTS LIST (TC-21FX30LA/LP) ......................... 40ELECTRICAL PARTS LIST (TC-29FX30LA/LP) ......................... 44Contents
