14Operating precautionsDo not allow any water to get into the camera-recorder when using it in the rain or snow orat the beach.Failure to heed this caution will cause thecamera-recorder or a card to malfunction (andmay result in irreparable damage).Keep the camera-recorder away fromequipment (such as TV sets and video gamemachines) that generate magnetic fields.Using the camera-recorder on top of or neara TV set may cause distortion in the imagesand/or sound due to the electromagnetic wavesthat the set emits. The powerful magnetic fields generated byspeakers or large motors may damage yourrecordings or distort the images. The electromagnetic waves emitted from amicrocomputer will adversely affect the camera-recorder, causing the images and/or sound tobe distorted. If the camera-recorder is so adversely affectedby products that generate magnetic fields thatit no longer operates properly, turn it off andremove the battery or unplug the AC adaptorfrom the power outlet. Then install the batteryagain or reconnect the AC adaptor. After this, turn the camera-recorder back on.Do not use the camera-recorder near radiotransmitters or high-voltage equipment.Using the camera-recorder near a radiotransmitter or high-voltage equipment mayadversely affect the recorded images and/orsound.Do not allow any sand or dust to get into thecamera-recorder when using it at the beachand other similar places.Sand and dust can damage the camera-recorder or a card. (Be especially careful wheninserting or removing a card.)Battery charger and batteryIf the CHARGE lamp continues to blink evenwhen the battery temperature is normal, theremay be something wrong with the battery orbattery charger. Contact your dealer. The battery takes longer to charge when it iswarm. The battery charger can interfere with radioreception so keep radios at least 1 meter awayfrom it.••••••••••The battery charger may make some noisewhen you are using it, but this is normal.Take precautions not to drop the camera-recorder when moving it.Strong impacts may damage the camera-recorder and cause it to stop working.Strong shock may lead to vertical misalignmentof the images from the two lenses.Handle the camera-recorder with care, securelygripping the handle or hand strap to carry it.Do not spray the camera-recorder with insectsprays or other volatile substances. These can warp the camera-recorder or causethe finish to come off.Do not leave the camera-recorder in contactwith rubber or PVC products for extendedperiods of time. After use, remove the battery and disconnectthe AC power supply cable.Battery characteristicsThis camera-recorder uses a rechargeablelithiumion battery that uses its internalchemical reaction to generate electricalenergy. This reaction is easily influenced bythe ambient temperature and humidity, and thebattery’s effective operating time is reducedas the temperature rises or falls. In very lowtemperatures, the battery may last only 5minutes.Protective circuitry functions if you use thebattery where it is very hot and you will have towait before you can use it again.Remove the battery after use.Completely remove the battery. (The batterycontinues to be used even if you have turnedthe camera-recorder off.) The battery can overdischarge if you leave it in the camera-recorderand it may become impossible to recharge it.Disposing of spent batteriesThe battery will become unchargeable. Ratherthan throwing the battery into the garbage, take itto a store that can assist in recycling it.••••••
