INSTRUCTIONS MAX® 4310Thank you for choosing Panamax . TheMAX® 4310 is designed to provide maxi-mum protection for audio/video equipmentwith external signal connections such ascable TV, rooftop antenna and DBS satellitesystems.INSTALLING THE MAX® 4310NOTE: The MAX® 4310 and the connectedequipment must be indoors and in the samebuilding.AC Installation1. Plug the MAX® 4310 directly into a prop-erly grounded 3-wire AC outlet*.2. Turn the MAX® 4310 on.3. Plug in one of the pieces of equipmentyou want to protect and turn the equipment on.If the equipment is working correctly, contin-ue to plug in and turn on your equipment. Inthe extremely unlikely event that everythingdoes not work perfectly, stop and read thetroubleshooting section. If you continue tohave problems, call PANAMAX CustomerRelations Department at 800-472-5555, USAand Canada.*Many old buildings are inadequately wired.It is very common for a building to beimproperly grounded. Building wiring andgrounding must conform to applicable NEC(USA) or CEC (Canada) codes for the PANA -MAX connected equipment policy to be valid.Note to CATV Installer:This reminder is provided to call the atten-tion to Article 820-40 of the NEC. That articleprovides specific guidelines for propergrounding. It specifies that the cable groundshall be connected to the grounding systemof the building and as close to the point ofcable entry as practical.Satellite Coax Installation **1. Connect the coax cable from the satellitedish to a Satellite coax terminal on theMAX® 4310.2. Connect the provided coax jumper cableto the other Satellite coax terminal on theMAX® 4310.3. Connect the other end of the coax jumpercable to the input jack on your satellitereceiver.Cable TV or Rooftop Antenna Coax Installation **1. Connect the coax cable from the wall orfloor plate to a CATV/ANT coax terminal onthe MAX® 4310.2. Connect the provided coax jumper cableto the other CATV/ANT coax terminal on theMAX® 4310.3. Connect the other end of the coax jumpercable to the input jack on your television,VCR, or satellite receiver.**There is no designated input or output jack for theMAX® 4310 Satelliteand CATV/ANT coax terminals.The coaxial protection circuitry is bi-directional inboth signal transmission and protection capabilities.Phone Installation1. Connect a phone cable from the wall jackto the LINE terminal on the telephone jack onthe MAX® 4310.2. Connect the provided phone line cablefrom the EQUIP terminal on the MAX® 4310to the input jack on your satellite receiver.Please note that the protection circuitr ywill not work if these lines are reversed.Rack MountingAn optional rack mount kit is available.Order # GRM2205.TROUBLESHOOTINGThere is no AC power to my equipment, ormy equipment doesn’t turn on.Make sure that the MAX® 4310 is pluggedinto a working AC outlet. Check all ACconnections.Make sure the MAX® 4310 and connectedequipment is turned on. If you are using the12VDC trigger, make sure that the source isactually supplying the voltage needed toactivate the MAX® 4310.Check to see if the circuit breaker on theMAX® 4310 needs to be reset (press in).The MAX® 4310 circuit breaker disconnectsAC power from the connected equipment.You have exceeded the ampere rating foryour surge protector. Leave this switch in theON position if the DC trigger isbeing used.Switched Outlets LED -(green) indicates the sta-tus of the “SwitchedOutlets” pushbutton andcorresponds with theswitch position.Ground OK LED - (green)indicates that the walloutlet is properly grounded.Ground Fault LED - (red)when lit, indicates that thewall outlet is improperlywired.Unsafe Voltage LED - (red) whenlit, indicates that incoming volt-ages are unsafe and the surgeprotector has disconnected thepower to protect your equipment.Always-on Convenience Outlet -10 Ft.
