12 ENGLISH10. Follow instructions for lubricating, chaintensioning and changing the bar and chain.Improperly tensioned or lubricated chain mayeither break or increase the chance for kickback.11. Cut wood only. Do not use chain saw for pur-poses not intended. For example: do not usechain saw for cutting metal, plastic, masonryor non-wood building materials. Use of thechain saw for operations different than intendedcould result in a hazardous situation.12. Do not attempt to fell a tree until you have anunderstanding of the risks and how to avoidthem. Serious injury could occur to the operator orbystanders while felling a tree.13. Causes and operator prevention of kickback:Kickback may occur when the nose or tip of theguide bar touches an object, or when the woodcloses in and pinches the saw chain in the cut.Tip contact in some cases may cause a suddenreverse reaction, kicking the guide bar up andback towards the operator.Pinching the saw chain along the top of the guidebar may push the guide bar rapidly back towardsthe operator.Either of these reactions may cause you to losecontrol of the saw which could result in seriouspersonal injury. Do not rely exclusively upon thesafety devices built into your saw. As a chain sawuser, you should take several steps to keep yourcutting jobs free from accident or injury.Kickback is the result of chain saw misuse and/orincorrect operating procedures or conditions andcan be avoided by taking proper precautions asgiven below:• Maintain a firm grip, with thumbs andfingers encircling the chain saw handles, with both hands on the saw and positionyour body and arm to allow you to resistkickback forces. Kickback forces can becontrolled by the operator, if proper precau-tions are taken. Do not let go of the chainsaw.► Fig.1• Do not overreach and do not cut aboveshoulder height. This helps prevent unin-tended tip contact and enables better controlof the chain saw in unexpected situations.• Only use replacement guide bars and sawchains specified by the manufacturer.Incorrect replacement guide bars and sawchains may cause chain breakage and/orkickback.• Follow the manufacturer’s sharpeningand maintenance instructions for the sawchain. Decreasing the depth gauge heightcan lead to increased kickback.14. Follow all instructions when clearing jammedmaterial, storing or servicing the chain saw.Make sure the switch is off and the batterypack is removed. Unexpected actuation of thechain saw while clearing jammed material orservicing may result in serious personal injury.Additional Safety InstructionsPersonal protective equipment1.
