Stopper pinWhen the tool is shipped, the handle is locked in thelowered position by the stopper pin. Release the stop-per pin by simultaneously applying a slight downwardpressure on the handle and pulling the stopper pin.► Fig.3: 1. BoltsThis tool should be bolted with four bolts to a level andstable surface using the bolt holes provided in the tool'sbase. This will help prevent tipping and possible injury.Installing the holders and holderassembliesNOTE: In some countries, the holders and holderassemblies may not be included in the tool packageas standard accessory.► Fig.4: 1. Holder 2. Holder assembly 3. ScrewThe holders and the holder assemblies support work-pieces horizontally.Install the holders and the holder assemblies on bothside as shown in the figure.Then tighten the screws firmly to secure the holders andthe holder assemblies.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONWARNING:• Always be sure that the tool is switched offand unplugged before adjusting or checkingfunction on the tool. Failure to switch off andunplug the tool may result in serious personalinjury from accidental start-up.Blade guard► Fig.5: 1. Blade guardWhen lowering the handle, the blade guard rises auto-matically. The blade guard returns to its original positionwhen the cut is completed and the handle is raised.WARNING:• Never defeat or remove the blade guard orthe spring which attaches to the guard. Anexposed blade as a result of defeated guardingmay result in serious personal injury duringoperation.In the interest of your personal safety, always maintainthe blade guard in good condition. Any irregular opera-tion of the blade guard should be corrected immediately.Check to assure spring loaded return action of guard.WARNING:• Never use the tool if the blade guard or springare damaged, faulty or removed. Operation ofthe tool with a damaged, faulty or removed guardmay result in serious personal injury.If the see-through blade guard becomes dirty, or saw-dust adheres to it in such a way that the blade and/orworkpiece is no longer easily visible, unplug the saw andclean the guard carefully with a damp cloth. Do not usesolvents or any petroleum-based cleaners on the plasticguard because this may cause damage to the guard.If the blade guard becomes dirty and needs to becleaned for proper operation follow the steps below:With the tool switched off and unplugged, use the sup-plied socket wrench to loosen the hex bolt holding thecenter cover. Loosen the hex bolt by turning it counter-clockwise and raise the blade guard and center cover.► Fig.6: 1. Blade guardWith the blade guard so positioned, cleaning can bemore completely and efficiently accomplished. Whencleaning is complete reverse procedure above andsecure bolt. Do not remove spring holding blade guard.If guard becomes damaged through age or UV lightexposure, contact a Makita service center for a newguard. DO NOT DEFEAT OR REMOVE GUARD.Positioning kerf board► Fig.7: 1. Screw 2. Kerf board► Fig.8: 1. Saw blade 2. Blade teeth 3. Kerf board 4. Leftbevel cut 5. Straight cut 6. Right bevel cutThis tool is provided with the kerf boards in the turnbase to minimize tearing on the exit side of a cut. Thekerf boards are factory adjusted so that the saw bladedoes not contact the kerf boards. Before use, adjust thekerf boards as follows: |
