5WARNING:DO NOT let comfort or familiarity with product(gained from repeated use) replace strict adherenceto safety rules for the subject product.MISUSE or failure to follow the safety rules stated inthis instruction manual may cause serious personalinjury.FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTIONCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off and unpluggedbefore adjusting or checking function on the tool.Switch action (Fig. 1)CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to see thatthe tool is switched off.To start the tool, push the switch lever on the left side ofthe tool. To stop the tool, push the switch lever on theright side of the tool.Speed change (Fig. 2)For HM1202C onlyThe blows per minute can be adjusted just by turning theadjusting dial. This can be done even while the tool isrunning. The dial is marked 1 (lowest speed) to 6 (fullspeed). Refer to the table below for the relationshipbetween the number settings on the adjusting dial andthe blows per minute.CAUTION:• The speed adjusting dial can be turned only as far as 6and back to 1. Do not force it past 6 or 1, or the speedadjusting function may no longer work.Indicator lamp (Fig. 3)For HM1202C onlyThe green power-ON indicator lamp lights up when thetool is switched ON. If the indicator lamp is lit but the tooldoes not start, the carbon brushes may be worn out, orthe electric circuit or the motor may be defective. If theindicator lamp does not light up and the tool does notstart, the ON/OFF switch or the mains cord may bedefective.The red service indicator lamp lights up when the carbonbrushes are nearly worn out to indicate that the toolneeds servicing. After approx. 8 hours of use, the motorwill automatically be shut off.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Side handle (auxiliary handle) (Fig. 4 & 5)The side handle can be swung 360° on the vertical andsecured at any desired position. It also secures at eightdifferent positions back and forth on the horizontal. Justloosen the clamp nut to swing the side handle to adesired position. Then tighten the clamp nut securely.The side handle also can be mounted in the rear groove.Loosen the clamp nut and widen the side handle base.Slide the side handle back to the rear groove and secureit with the clamp nut.Installing or removing the bit (Fig. 6, 7 & 8)Clean the bit shank and apply bit grease before installingthe bit.Insert the bit into the tool. Turn the bit and push it in untilit engages.If the bit cannot be pushed in, remove the bit. Pull the toolholder cover down a couple of times. Then insert the bitagain. Turn the bit and push it in until it engages.After installing, always make sure that the bit is securelyheld in place by trying to pull it out.To remove the bit, pull the tool holder cover down all theway and pull the bit out.Bit angle (Fig. 9)The bit can be secured at 12 different angles. To changethe bit angle, slide the change ring forward, then turn thechange ring to change the bit angle. At the desired angle,slide the change ring back to the original position. The bitwill be secured in place.NOTE:• The change ring cannot turn when the bit is notinstalled on the tool.OPERATIONChipping/Scaling/Demolition (Fig. 10)Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Turn the tool on andapply slight pressure on the tool so that the tool will notbounce around, uncontrolled. Pressing very hard on thetool will not increase the efficiency.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspection ormaintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.Replacing carbon brushes (Fig. 11, 12 & 13)When the resin insulating tip inside the carbon brush isexposed to contact the commutator, it will automaticallyshut off the motor. When this occurs, both carbonbrushes should be replaced. Keep the carbon brushesclean and free to slip in the holders. Both carbon brushesshould be replaced at the same time. Use only identicalcarbon brushes.Remove the screws which secure the rear cover. Pry upthe rear cover with a screwdriver and remove it.Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps.
