5Switch action (Fig. 4)CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to see thatthe switch trigger actuates properly and returns to the“OFF” position when released.To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Tool speedis increased by increasing pressure on the switch trigger.Release the switch trigger to stop.For continuous operation, pull the switch trigger and thenpush in the lock button.To stop the tool from the locked position, pull the switchtrigger fully, then release it.NOTE:• Even with the switch on and motor running, the bit willnot rotate until you fit the point of the bit in the screwhead and apply forward pressure to engage the clutch.Lighting up the lamps (Fig. 5)CAUTION:• Do not look in the light or see the source of lightdirectly.To turn on the lamp, pull the trigger. Release the trigger toturn it off.NOTE:• Use a dry cloth to wipe the dirt off the lens of lamp. Becareful not to scratch the lens of lamp, or it may lowerthe illumination.Reversing switch action (Fig. 6)CAUTION:• Always check the direction of rotation before operation.• Use the reversing switch only after the tool comes to acomplete stop. Changing the direction of rotationbefore the tool stops may damage the tool.This tool has a reversing switch to change the direction ofrotation. Move the reversing switch lever to theposition (A side) for clockwise rotation or the position(B side) for counterclockwise rotation.Adjusting the fastening torqueWhen you wish to drive machine screws, wood screws,hex bolts, etc. with the predetermined torque, adjust thefastening torque as follows. (Fig. 7)The fastening torque may be adjusted by turning theadjusting ring. The torque is increased by turning theadjusting ring in the direction of the arrow and decreasedby turning it in the opposite direction. Align the number 1on the adjusting ring with the pointer on the gear housing.Drive a trial screw into your material or a piece ofduplicate material. If the fastening torque is not suitablefor the screw, continue adjusting until the proper torque isobtained.CAUTION:• The adjusting ring should be turned only within thenumbered range. It should not be forced beyond thisrange.Hook (Fig. 8)The hook is convenient for temporarily hanging the tool.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Installing or removing the bitFor Model FS2700To remove the bit, first pull the front cap off and then pullthe bit out firmly. (Fig. 9)To install the bit, insert it into the tool as far as it will goand then replace the front cap.For Model FS2701To install the bit, pull the sleeve in the direction of thearrow and insert the bit into the sleeve as far as it will go.Then release the sleeve to secure the bit. (Fig. 10)To remove the bit, pull the sleeve in the direction of thearrow and pull the bit out firmly.NOTE:• If the bit is not inserted deep enough into the sleeve,the sleeve will not return to its original position and thebit will not be secured. In this case, try re-inserting thebit according to the instructions above.• After inserting the bit, make sure that it is firmlysecured. If it comes out, do not use it.OPERATION (Fig. 11 & 12)Fit the screw on the point of the bit and place the point ofthe screw on the surface of the workpiece to be fastened.Apply pressure to the tool and start it. Withdraw the toolas soon as the clutch cuts in. Then release the switchtrigger.CAUTION:• When fitting the screw onto the point of the bit, becareful not to push in on the screw. If the screw ispushed in, the clutch will engage and the screw willrotate suddenly. This could damage a workpiece orcause an injury.• Make sure that the bit is inserted straight in the screwhead, or the screw and/or bit may be damaged.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspection ormaintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcohol or thelike. Discoloration, deformation or cracks may result.To maintain product SAFETY and RELIABILITY, repairs,carbon brush inspection and replacement, any othermaintenance or adjustment should be performed byMakita Authorized Service Centers, always using Makitareplacement parts.OPTIONAL ACCESSORIESCAUTION:• These accessories or attachments are recommendedfor use with your Makita tool specified in this manual.The use of any other accessories or attachments might |
