2981011754516 72 3Cleaning the brake band and sprocket interiorCAUTION: Before doing any work on the guide bar or chain,always switch off the engine and pull the plug cap off thespark plug (see "Replacing the spark plug"). Always wearprotective gloves!CAUTION: Start the chain saw only after having assembledit completely and inspected.Remove the sprocket guard (1) (See "PUTTING INTO OPERA-TION" figs. B) and clean the interior with a brushRemove the chain (3) and guide bar (2).Unscrew screw (4) and remove the guide plate (5).Unscrew screw (6) and remove the brake mechanism cover(7).Clean the guide plate (5) and brake mechanism cover (7).Use a brush to clean the interior, especially the brake mecha-nism (11).Make sure to leave no residue in the oil guide groove (10)NOTE:The brake mechanism cover (7) holds the lever (8) in place.Before putting the cover back on, check the lever for properpositioning.First put on the brake mechanism cover (7) and then the guideplate (5).For replacing the guide bar, chain, and sprocket see "PUTTINGINTO OPERATION A-H".After assembly, always check the functioning of the chainbrake (see “Checking the chain brake”)NOTE:The chain brake is a very important safety device and likeany other component subject to normal wear and tear.Regular inspection and maintenance are important foryour own safety and must be done by a MAKITA servicecenter.STOPASERVICEB
