17 ENGLISHCAUTION: Always install the battery cartridgefully until the red indicator cannot be seen. If not,it may accidentally fall out of the tool, causing injury toyou or someone around you.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgeforcibly. Check buttonPress the check button on the battery cartridge to indi-cate the remaining battery capacity. The indicator lampslight up for a few seconds.Indicator lamps RemainingcapacityLighted Off Blinking75% to 100%50% to 75%25% to 50%0% to 25%Charge thebattery.The batterymay havemalfunctioned.NOTE: Depending on the conditions of use and theambient temperature, the indication may differ slightlyfrom the actual capacity.NOTE: The first (far left) indicator lamp will blink whenthe battery protection system works.Tool / battery protection systemThe tool is equipped with a tool/battery protection sys-tem. This system automatically cuts off power to themotor to extend tool and battery life. The tool will auto-matically stop during operation if the tool or battery isplaced under one of the following conditions:Overload protectionWhen the tool/battery is operated in a manner thatcauses it to draw an abnormally high current, the toolstops automatically. In this situation, turn the tool offand stop the application that caused the tool to becomeoverloaded. Then turn the tool on to restart.Overheat protectionWhen the tool/battery is overheated, the tool stopsautomatically. In this situation, let the tool cool downbefore turning the tool on again.Overdischarge protectionWhen the battery becomes low on power during use,the lamp will blink to alert you. Then the tool automati-cally stops, with the lamp remaining lit for approximately10 seconds, shortly after the battery power becomestoo low to operate during continuing use. In such cases,remove the battery from the tool and charge the battery.Protections against other causesProtection system is also designed for other causes that coulddamage the tool and allows the tool to stop automatically.Take all the following steps to clear the causes, when the toolhas been brought to a temporary halt or stop in operation.1. Turn the tool off, and then turn it on again to restart.2. Charge the battery(ies) or replace it/them withrecharged battery(ies).3. Let the tool and battery(ies) cool down.If no improvement can be found by restoring protectionsystem, then contact your local Makita Service Center.Switch actionCAUTION: Before installing the battery car-tridge into the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns tothe "OFF" position when released.CAUTION: Switch can be locked in "ON"position for ease of operator comfort duringextended use. Apply caution while locking tool in"ON" position.CAUTION: Do not install the battery cartridgewith the lock-on button engaged.CAUTION: When not operating the tool,depress the trigger-lock button from the side onwhich a locking mark ( ) is indicated to lock theswitch trigger in the "OFF" position.Trigger-lock buttonTo prevent the switch trigger from being accidentally pulled,the trigger-lock button is provided. To start the tool, depressthe trigger-lock button from the side on which an unlockingmark ( ) is indicated. To lock the tool, depress the trigger-lockbutton from the side on which a locking mark ( ) is indicated.Make sure to set the trigger-lock button back in a lock-ing position after each use.► Fig.18: 1. This cancause switch breakage.Switch triggerAir volume can be controlled by squeezing the switchtrigger. Air volume is grown by increasing pressure onthe switch trigger. Release the switch trigger to stop.► Fig.19: 1. Switch triggerLock buttonFor continuous operation, push in the lock button while pulling theswitch trigger and then release the switch trigger.
