VacuumcleanerCleaner sanding operations can be performed by con-necting the belt sander to Makita vacuum cleaner.When connecting to Makita vacuum cleaner, an optionalhose 28 mm in inner diameter is necessary.OPERATIONSanding operation► Fig.8CAUTION:• The tool should not be in contact with the work-piece surface when you turn the tool on or off.Otherwise a poor sanding finish or damage ofthe belt may result.Hold the tool firmly with both hands. Turn the tool onand wait until it attains full speed. Then gently place thetool on the workpiece surface. Keep the belt flush withthe workpiece at all times and move the tool back andforth.Never force the tool. The weight of the tool applies ade-quate pressure. Excessive pressure may cause stalling,overheating of the motor, burning of the workpiece andpossible kickback.Sanding shoe (optional accessory)► Fig.9: 1. Sanding shoeThe sanding shoe readily allows you to sand work-pieces more evenly.MAINTENANCECAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before attempting to perform inspec-tion or maintenance.• Never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, alcoholor the like. Discoloration, deformation or cracksmay result.Replacing carbon brushes► Fig.10: 1. Limit markRemove and check the carbon brushes regularly.Replace them when they are worn down to the limitmark. Keep the carbon brushes clean and free to slip inthe holders. Both carbon brushes should be replaced atthe same time. Use only identical carbon brushes.Use a screwdriver to remove the brush holder caps.Take out the worn carbon brushes, insert the new onesand secure the brush holder caps.► Fig.11: 1.
