Pivot the arm to thedesired position, and secure the lock lever to fix the armfirmly.Replacing armBy replacing the standard-equipped arm by optional one,6 mm or 13 mm width belt can be used. Remove the armby loosening the screw that secures the arm. Insert thearm that fits the belt to be used, and tighten the screwfirmly.Fig.1Switch actionFig.2CAUTION:• Before plugging in the tool, always check to seethat the switch trigger actuates properly andreturns to the "OFF" position when released.To start the tool, simply pull the switch trigger. Releasethe switch trigger to stop.For continuous operation, pull the switch trigger andthen push in the lock button.To stop the tool from the locked position, pull the switchtrigger fully, and then release it.Speed adjusting dialFig.3The belt speed can be infinitely adjusted between 5 mand 28 m per second by turning the speed adjusting dialto a given number setting from 1 to 6.Higher speed is obtained when the dial is turned in thedirection of number 6; lower speed is obtained when it isturned in the direction of number 1. Select the properspeed for the workpiece to be sanded.CAUTION:• The speed adjusting dial can be turned only as faras 6 and back to 1. Do not force it past 6 or 1, orthe speed adjusting function may no longer work.ASSEMBLYCAUTION:• Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on thetool.Installing or removing abrasive beltFig.4Pull the cam lever all the way out. Install the belt over therear pulley, and slip the belt over the front pulley, with thebelt pulled out to the front arm. Return the cam lever tothe original position.Adjusting belt trackingFig.5Switch on the tool and make sure that the belt is alignedproperly.Use the adjusting dial to center the belt tracking. Turnthe adjusting dial clockwise to incline the arm to the right,or counterclockwise to incline it to the left.Connecting to Makita vacuum cleanerFig.6CAUTION:• Always close the nozzle cap when the vacuumcleaner is not connected to the nozzle. Neverinsert your finger into the nozzle.Cleaner sanding operations can be performed byconnecting the belt sander to Makita vacuum cleaner.Open the nozzle cap, and install the dust nozzle.Connect the hose of a vacuum cleaner to the dustnozzle.When connecting to Makita vacuum cleaner, an optionalhose 28 mm in inner diameter is necessary.Fig.71.
