Check damaged partsBefore further use of the tool, a guard or otherpart that is damaged should be carefully checkedto determine that it will operate properly and per-form its intended function. Check for alignment ofmoving parts, binding of moving parts, breakageof parts, mounting, and any other conditions thatmay affect its operation. A guard or other partthat is damaged should be properly repaired orreplaced by an authorized service center unlessotherwise indicated elsewhere in this instructionmanual. Have defective switches replaced byand authorized service center. Do not use tool ifswitch does not turn it on and off.21. WarningThe use of any other accessory or attachmentother than recommended in this operatinginstruction or the catalog may present a risk ofpersonal injury.22. Have your tool repaired by an expertThis electric appliance is in accordance with therelevant safety rules. Hold tool by insulated gripping surfaces whenperforming an operation where the cutting toolmay contact hidden wiring or its own cord. Con-tact with a “live” wire will make exposed metal partsof the tool “live” and shock the operator.2. Hold the tool firmly with both hands.3. Make sure the belt is not contacting the work-piece before the switch is turned on.4. Keep hands away from rotating parts.5. Do not leave the tool running. Operate the toolonly when hand-held.6. This tool has not been waterproofed, so do notuse water on the workpiece surface.7. Ventilate your work area adequately when youperform sanding operations.8. Some material contains chemicals which may betoxic. Take caution to prevent working dust inha-lation and skin contact. Follow material suppliersafety data.9. Always use the correct dust mask/respirator forthe material and application you are workingwith.SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS.OPERATING INSTRUCTIONSInstalling side grip (Fig. 1)For your own safety, always use the side grip. Install it onthe grip holder. The side grip can be pivoted for easyoperation.Installing or removing abrasive belt (Fig. 2 & 3)Important:Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before installing or removing the belt.Loop the belt over the front pulley. Hold the tool as shownin Fig. 2 and press down on the front pulley so that youcan slip the other end over the rear pulley.NOTE:The arrow on the inside of the belt and that on the rearpulley must be in the same direction.Switching ON and OFF (Fig. 4)CAUTION:Before plugging in the tool, always check to see that theswitch trigger actuates properly and returns to the “OFF”position when released.To switch on, press the trigger. To switch off, release thetrigger.Continuous running (Fig. 4)Press the trigger and at the same time push the lock but-ton. To stop this lock position, press the trigger andrelease it.Speed adjusting dial (Fig. 5)The belt running speed can be adjusted between 200 m/min.and 1,000 m/min. by turning the adjusting dial. The dial ismarked 1 (lowest speed) to 6 (full speed).OperationHold the tool firmly with both hands. Press the belt onlylightly on the workpiece. Excessive pressure may dam-age the belt and shorten tool life.Dust extraction (Fig. 6 & 7)Open the nozzle cap. Connect a hose of vacuum cleaner/dust collector to the nozzle.NOTE:Always close the nozzle cap when the vacuum cleaner/dust collector is not connected to the nozzle.MAINTENANCECAUTION:Always be sure that the tool is switched off andunplugged before carrying out any work on the tool.Replacement of carbon brushes (Fig. 8 & 9)Replace carbon brushes when they are worn down to thelimit mark. Both identical carbon brushes should bereplaced at the same time.To maintain product safety and reliability, repairs, mainte-nance or adjustment should be carried out by a MakitaAuthorized Service Centre. |
