Note: The small triangle 3 on one corner of the new microprocessor is the microprocessor orientationindicator. The new microprocessor is in the correct orientation when this indicator points to the beveledcorner 4 of the microprocessor socket.Step 13. Close the microprocessor retainer and lock it into position with the small handle to secure the newmicroprocessor in the socket.Step 14. Reinstall the heat sink and fan assembly.Step 15. Pivot the drive bay assembly downward.Step 16. Reinstall all the removed parts, and then reconnect the cables.Replacing the front fanTo replace the front fan: (Selected medels only)Step 1. Remove any media from the drives, shut down the operating system, and turn off the computer andall attached devices.Step 2. Unplug all power cords from electrical outlets.Step 3. Disconnect all cables attached to the computer. This includes power cords, input/output (I/O)cables, and any other cables that are connected to the computer. Refer to Locating connectors,controls and components to locate the various connectors.Step 4. Remove the computer cover. Refer to Removing the computer cover.Step 5. Remove the front bezel. Refer to Removing the front bezel.Step 6. Pivot the drive bay assembly upward.Step 7. Disconnect the front fan power cable from the corresponding connector on the motherboard.Step 8. The system fan is connected to the chassis by four rubber mounts. Break or cut the rubber mountsand gently pull the system fan out of the chassis.Chapter 8. Replacing hardware 45
