This index can also be used to help youdecide which FRUs to have available when servicing a computer. If you are unable to correct the problemusing this index, go to “Undetermined problems” on page 20.Notes:• If you have both an error message and an incorrect audio response, diagnose the error message first.• If you cannot run the diagnostic tests or you get a diagnostic error code when running a test but didreceive a POST error message, diagnose the POST error message first.• If you did not receive any error message look for a description of your error symptoms in the first part ofthis index.Hard disk drive boot errorA hard disk drive boot error can have the following causes.Error FRU/ActionThe startup drive is not included in the boot sequenceconfiguration.Check the configuration and ensure the startup drive isin the boot sequence.No operating system is installed on the boot drive. Install an operating system on the boot drive.The boot sector on the startup drive is corrupted. The drive must be formatted. Do the following:1. Attempt to back up the data on the failing hard diskdrive.2. Use the operating system to format the hard diskdrive.The drive is defective. Replace the hard disk drive.Power Supply ProblemsFollow these procedures if you suspect there is a power supply problem.Check/Verify FRU/ActionCheck that the following are properly installed:• Power Cord• On/Off Switch connector• System Board Power Supply connectors• Microprocessor connectionsReseat connectorsCheck the power cord.
