LAARS Heating SystemsPage 2SECTION 1.General InformationWARNINGMascot II units must be installed in accordancewith the procedures detailed in this manual, or theLAARS Heating Systems warranty will be voided.The installation must conform to the requirementsof the local jurisdiction having authority, and, in theUnited States, to the latest edition of the National FuelGas Code, ANSI Z223.1/NFPA54. In Canada, theinstallation must conform to the latest edition of CSAB149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Gas InstallationCode, and/or local codes. Where required by theauthority having jurisdiction, the installation of MascotII boilers must conform to the Standard for Controlsand Safety Devices for Automatically Fired Boilers,ANSI/ASME CSD-1. Any modifications to the boiler,its gas controls, or wiring may void the warranty.If field conditions require modifications, consultthe factory representative before initiating suchmodifications.1.1 IntroductionThis manual provides information necessary forthe installation, operation, and maintenance of LAARSHeating Systems Mascot II appliances. Read it carefullybefore installation.All application and installation proceduresshould be reviewed completely before proceedingwith the installation. Consult the LAARS HeatingSystems factory, or local factory representative, withany problems or questions regarding this equipment.Experience has shown that most operating problems arecaused by improper installation.Mascot II is protected against over pressurization.A pressure relief valve is included with each Mascot II.The PRV should be installed prior to filling the system.Refer to Figures 1 and 2 for PRV locations.IMPORTANT: The inlet gas pressure to the appliancemust not exceed 13” W.C. (3.2kPa).All installations must be made in accordance with1) American National Standard Z223.1/NFPA54-LatestEdition “National Fuel Gas Code” or 2) CSA B149.1“Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code” and withthe requirement of the local utility or other authoritieshaving jurisdiction. Such applicable requirements takeprecedence over the general instructions containedherein.All electrical wiring is to be done in accordancewith the local codes, or in the absence of local codes,with: 1) The National Electrical Code ANSI/NFPA No.70-latest Edition, or 2) CSA STD. C22.1 “CanadianElectrical Code - Part 1”. This appliance must beelectrically grounded in accordance with these codes.1.2 Model IdentificationConsult the rating plate on the unit.
