8 VI User Manual Groove Pedelec2 Legal principlesThe essential idea behind the Pedelec is not only to beable to cover greater distances more quickly, but alsomore comfortably. You can choose to relax and let the bikedo the work, exert yourself more physically, or simply getfrom A to B as fast as possible. You can decide this your-self by choosing an appropriate assist level.This gives you more confidence on the road, as the pow-erful acceleration gives you more control and a greaterdegree of security. Your Pedelec provides you with powerassistance, the level of which you can vary at the controlpanel.In some EU countries, the Pedelec, like all other bikes,must comply with certain regulations, the Road TrafficLicensing Regulations (StVZO) in Germany for example.Please observe the relevant explanations and generalinformation provided in the General User Manual.These statutory requirements apply for a Pedelec:• The motor is designed only to provide pedalling as-sistance, i.e. it can only "assist" the rider when he/she turns the pedals.• The average motor output must not exceed 250 W.• As the speed increases, the rate at which the motoroutput reduces must also increase more intensely.• The motor must switch off once the bike reaches aspeed of 25 km/h.2.1 Meaning for the rider• You do not legally have to wear a helmet. In theinterest of your own safety, however, you shouldnever ride without a helmet.• You do not legally have to have a driving license(unless you own a model with pushing assistance,➠ Chapter 2.2 “Pushing assistance”).• You do not legally have to have insurance.• No age restriction applies for a Pedelec.• The regulations governing the use of cycle pathsare the same as for normal bikes.These regulations apply to you wherever you are in theEuropean Union. It is possible that different regulationsexist in other countries, also inside the EU in individualcases. Before using your Pedelec abroad, find out aboutthe legal situation in the relevant country.2.2 Pushing assistanceYour Pedelec is available in a version with or without push-ing assistance.Button for pushing assistanceThe pushing assistance moves the Pedelec slowly (at amaximum speed of 6 km/h) without you having to turn thepedals, e.g. if you are manoeuvring in a tight space or arepushing your Pedelec out of a basement garage.If you were born after 01. 04. 1965, you will need a mopedtest certificate for the version with pushing assistance. Ifyou already have another type of driving licence, this au-tomatically includes the moped test certificate.The pushing assistance is not suitable for use as startingassistance.3 Special features of Pedelecwith Groove driveYour Pedelec is equipped with special features that aredesigned to enhance your safety and comfort.› With the Groove drive, you can ride your Pedelec,and also benefit from the convenience and safety ofa back-pedal function.This means that you can rely on three brakes; thefamiliar back-pedal brake and the powerful, mod-ern rim brakes.1321 Rim brake, front2 Back-pedal brake3 Rim brake, rear
