4. The pump should be installed on a firm, solid, andlevel surface to avoid risk of settlement. Do not usesand to level the pump as sand will wash away. Checklocal building codes for any additional requirements(Ex. Equipment pads in Florida must be concrete andequipment must be secured to the pad.)NOTE Zodiac Pool Systems, Inc. recommends boltingthe pump directly to the foundation.5. The pump foundation must have adequate drainageto prevent the motor from getting wet. Protect thepump from the rain and sun.6. Proper ventilation is required for the pump to operatenormally. All motors generate heat that must beremoved by providing proper ventilation.7. Provide access for future services by leaving a cleararea around the pump. Allow plenty of space abovethe pump to remove the lid and basket for cleaning.8. If the equipment is in a potentially dark area, provideadequate lighting.3.1.3 Pipe SizingNOTE All HP ratings given in this section apply to full-rated pumps.3.1.3.1 Suction PipeWhen the pump is located up to 50 feet from thepool, the recommended minimum pipe size for thesuction side of the pump is 2" for .75 to 1.5 HP*. For2.0 HP* pumps, the recommended pipe size is 2 ½". For3.0 HP* pumps, the recommended pipe size is 3".* HP refers to full rated pumps.3.1.3.2 Discharge PipeWhen the pump is located up to 50 feet from thepool, the recommended minimum pipe size for thedischarge side of the pump is 2" for .75 to 1.5 HP*. For2.0 HP* pumps, the recommended pipe size is 2½". For3.0 HP* pumps, the recommended pipe size is 3".* HP refers to full rated pumps.NOTE All pipe sizes are able to withstand thepressures the pump will deliver, but notnecessarily the flow. If the pipe is too smallfor the pump, or is elevated above water, themaximum gallons per minute (GPM) may not bedelivered. If this happens, the pump will developa pocket of air (cavitation) that makes noise. This may shorten the life of the pump.3.1.3.3 Installation Recommendations1. If the pump is located below water level, isolationvalves must be installed on both sides of the pumpto prevent the back flow of pool water during anyroutine or required servicing.Section 3. Installation Information3.1 Plumbing3.1.1 Preparation Information1. Upon receipt of the pump, check the carton fordamage. Open the carton and check the pump forconcealed damage, such as cracks, dents or a bentbase. If damage is found, contact the shipper ordistributor where the pump was purchased.2. Inspect the contents of the carton and verifythat all parts are included. See Section 7.1,Replacement Parts List and Exploded View.3.1.2 Pump LocationCAUTIONFor Canadian installation, this pump carries a Type3R enclosure rating and therefore is not intended forinstallation in areas subjected to windblown dust.1. Zodiac recommends installing the pump within one(1) foot above water level. Refer to Figure 2 for atypical installation. The pump should not be elevatedmore than a few feet above the water level of thepool. A check valve is recommended on the suctionline to the pump.WARNINGTo Reduce the Risk of Fire, install pool equipment inan area where leaves or other debris will not collecton or around the equipment. Keep surrounding areaclear of all debris such as paper, leaves, pine-needlesand other combustible materials.WARNINGSome Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) devicesare not compatible with the installation of check valves. If the pool has an SVRS device, be sure to confirmthat it will continue to safely operate when any checkvalves are installed.NOTE To achieve better self-priming, install thepump as close as possible to the water levelof the pool.2. If the pump is located below water level, isolationvalves must be installed on both the suction andreturn lines to prevent back flow of pool water duringany routine or required servicing.3. The pump and other circulation equipment mustbe located more than five (5) feet from the water.Choose a location that will minimize turns in thepiping.NOTE In Canada, the pump must be located a minimumof three (3) meters (approximately 10 feet) fromthe water (CSA C22.1).Page 7Jandy ® Pro Series ePump™ Series Pump | Installation and Operation ManualENGLISH
