This is not necessary with the JXi heaterbecause it has a special venturi-type combustion systemwhich self-compensates for changes in barometricpressure. Air flow through the blower inlet pulls thecorrect flow of gas into the burner regardless of airdensity. Proper combustion and high efficiency areassured without special adjustment or changes to theheater.2.4 Heater Components1. Gas Valve - The gas valve controls gas flowinto the burner. It enables flow only when thetemperature control requires heat and only ifall safety controls enable operation. It is also anegative pressure regulator, where it maintains agas pressure of 0.2” WC below the the air pressureat the blower inlet. It regulates the gas pressure to0.2” WC less than the air pressure at the blowerinlet. This is necessary for proper operation of theburner system and cannot be accomplished withcommon (positive pressure) gas valves.2. Combustion Blower and Air Orifice – Theblower pulls air and fuel gas in through theirrespective orifices and mixes the two gases beforeforcing the fuel/air mixture through the burnerfor combustion. During normal operation the fanwill turn on before flame initiation to ensure thatthe combustion chamber is clear before the igniteris energized. Additionally, the fan will run afterthe flame is extinguished in order to clear thecombustion chamber of exhaust gas.3. Pool/Spa Water Temperature Control - TheJXi heater models are equipped with an electroniccontrol, which senses water temperature by meansof a thermistor and controls heater operation toattain and maintain the water according to thetemperature selected. It has an option for two (2)separate thermostat settings, which are typicallyused to set pool and spa temperatures.4. Ignition Control - The ignition control providesenergy for ignition of the air/gas mixture, monitorsthe flame and controls the gas valve. When thetemperature control calls for heat, the ignitioncontrol provides a pre-purge of the combustionchamber. Once the pre-purge is complete theignition control then applies electrical power toa hot surface igniter. When the igniter attainssufficient temperature, the ignition control opensthe gas valve. Immediately after ignition, thecontrol system will look for characteristics of astable flame and de-energize the igniter. If flameis not detected shortly after opening the gas valvethe control system will close the valve to preventfurther gas release. The ignition control willattempt to start 2 more times before an ignitionfault is displayed.5. Igniter - The hot-surface igniter is constructed ofa ceramic material that attains a temperature greatenough to ignite the air/fuel mixture, when anelectric current is applied.
