Refer to “Setup Menu” in “OperatingGuide.”If “ ” appears on the TV screen when you press a button,the disc/file cannot perform the operation you have triedto do.• When playing a multi-channel encoded software, theSystem properly converts the multi-channel signals into2 channels, and emits the downmixed sound from thespeakers. To enjoy the powerful sound of these multi-channel encoded software, connect a proper decoder or anamplifier with a proper built-in decoder to the OPTICALDIGITAL OUTPUT terminal on the rear.About color systemThis System accommodates both NTSC and PAL system andcan play back discs/files recorded in either system.To change the color system, see “Preparations.”Note on Region CodeDVD players and DVDs have their own Region Codenumbers. Therefore, the use ofthe Non-DVD side of a DualDisc in this product may not berecommended.Warnings, Cautions and OthersCAUTIONThe button in any position does not disconnect themains line.Disconnect the mains plug to shut the power off completely(the STANDBY lamp goes off).The MAINS plug or an appliance coupler is used as thedisconnect device, the disconnect device shall remain readilyoperable.• When the System is on standby, the STANDBY lamp lightsred.• When the System is turned on, the STANDBY lamp goesoff.The power can be remote controlled.CAUTION:To reduce the risk of electrical shocks, fire, etc.:1. Do not remove screws, covers or cabinet.2. Do not expose this appliance to rain or moisture.CAUTION: Proper VentilationTo avoid risk of electric shock and fire, and to prevent damage, locate the apparatus as follows:1. Front: No obstructions and open spacing.2. Sides/Top/Back: No obstructions should be placed in the areas shown by the dimensions below.3. Bottom: Place on the level surface. Maintain an adequate air path for ventilation by placing on a stand with a height of10 cm or more.Front view Side viewTo get the best performance of the System, keep your discsand cassette tapes, and mechanism clean.Handling Discs• Remove the disc from its case by holding it at the edgewhile pressing the center hole lightly.• Do not touch the shiny surface of the disc, or bend thedisc.• Put the disc back in its case after use to prevent warping.• Be careful not to scratch the surface of the disc whenplacing it back in its case.• Avoid exposure to direct sunlight, extreme temperature,and moisture.To clean the disc:Wipe the disc with a soft cloth in a straight line from centerto edge.Handling Cassette Tapes• If the tape is loose in its cassette, take up the slack byinserting a pencil in one of the reels and rotate it.– If the tape is loose, it may get stretched, cut, or caught inthe cassette.• Be careful not to touch the tape surface.• Avoid the following places to store the tape—in dustyplaces, in direct sunlight or heat, in moist areas, on a TVor speaker, or near a magnet.Cleaning the System• Stains should be wiped off with a soft cloth. If the Systemis heavily stained, wipe it with a cloth soaked in water-diluted neutral detergent and wrung well, then wipe cleanwith a dry cloth.• Since the System may deteriorate in quality, becomedamaged or get its paint peeled off, be careful about thefollowing:– DO NOT wipe it with a hard cloth.– DO NOT wipe it forcefully.– DO NOT wipe it with thinner or benzine.– DO NOT apply any volatile substance such asinsecticides to it.– DO NOT allow any rubber or plastic to remain incontact for a long time.Bluetooth Operations (NX-D7)Sound of a Bluetooth audio player does not come outof the speakers.• The Bluetooth indicator is on.]Another player than the one you want to listen to isconnected to the System. Change the device to beconnected to the System (refer to “Using the BluetoothDevice (for NX-D7)” on page 30).• The Bluetooth indicator is flashing.]Connection is not established. Try pairing again (refer to“Using the Bluetooth Device (for NX-D7)” on page 30).• The Bluetooth indicator is off.]The Bluetooth adapter is not connected properly.]“Bluetooth” is not selected as the source.Sound of the System does not come out of Bluetoothheadphones.• The Bluetooth indicator is on.]Another pair of headphones than the one you want to useis connected to the System. Change the headphones to beconnected to the System (refer to “Using the BluetoothDevice (for NX-D7)” on page 30).• The Bluetooth indicator is flashing.]Connection is not established. Unplug the power cord andthen plug it back in.Unable to operate the System from the remote control.]The path between the remote control and the remotesensor on the System is blocked.]The batteries are exhausted.No sound is heard.]Speaker connections are incorrect or loose.]Headphones are connected.No picture appears on the TV screen.]The video cord connections are incorrect or loose.No picture is displayed on the TV screen, the picture isblurred, or the picture is divided into two parts.]The System is connected to a TV which does not supportprogressive video input.]Incorrect scanning mode is selected (see “Preparations”).]When you unplug the power cord and plug it back again,the scanning mode may change back to the initial setting(see “Preparations”).The left and right edges of the picture are missing onthe screen.]Select “4:3 LB,” “4:3 MULTI LB” for “MONITOR TYPE”(refer to “Setup Menu” on page 20).Radio OperationsHard to hear broadcasts because of noise.]Antenna connections are incorrect or loose.]The AM loop antenna is too close to the System.]The FM antenna is not properly extended and positioned.Disc/USB Device Playback OperationsThe disc does not play.]You have inserted a disc whose Region Code is not correct.(“REGION ERR” appears on the display.)]The disc is placed upside down. Place the disc with thelabel side facing up.ID3 Tag on an MP3 file cannot be shown.]Two types of ID3 Tag exist—Version 1 and Version 2. ThisSystem can only show ID3 Tag Version 1.Groups and tracks are not played back as you expect.]The playing order is determined when the groupsand tracks were recorded. It depends on the writingapplication.MP3, WMA, WAV, JPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, ASF or DivXfiles are not played back.]The disc or the USB device may contain different types offiles (ex. MP3/WMA/WAV/JPEG). In this case, you canonly play back the files selected by pressing FILE TYPE.]You have changed the “FILE TYPE” setting after theSystem read the disc or the USB device. In this case, reloadthe disc or disconnect the USB device and connect it again.The disc sound is discontinuous.]The disc is scratched or dirty.No subtitle appears on the display though you haveselected the initial subtitle language.]Some DVDs are programmed not to display any subtitleinitially. If this happens, press SUBTITLE after startingplayback.Audio language is different from the one you haveselected as the initial audio language.]Some DVDs are programmed to always use the originallanguage initially. If this happens, press AUDIO/MPX afterstarting playback.The disc tray does not open or close.]The power cord is not plugged in.]Child Lock is in use. “LOCKED” appears on the display(refer to “Listening to a Disc/USB Device” on page 17).Recording OperationsUnable to record into the USB device.]The capacity of the USB device is full. Erase some tracks.]You have recorded 999 tracks or group on the USB deviceyou want to record into. Erase unwanted tracks.]For NX-D5/NX-D3/NX-DC3: You cannot record trackswhile Mic Mixing is activated.]The USB device is write-protected.]The connected USB device is incompatible to this System.Editing OperationsUnable to assign title to tracks on the USB device.]For NX-D5/NX-D3/NX-DC3: You cannot edit files whileMic Mixing is activated.]When a track is damaged, you cannot edit that track. Inthis case, turn off the System and turn on again.]The USB device is write-protected.Timer OperationsDaily Timer does not work.]The System has been turned on when the on-time comes.Timer starts working only when the System is turned off.Daily Timer does not start playback.]The loaded disc is a DVD Video. Change the disc.Connections• Make sure the antenna conductors do not touch any otherterminals, connecting cords or the power cord. Also, keepthe antennas away from metallic parts of the System,connecting cords, and the power cord. These could causepoor reception.• Use only speakers with the same speaker impedance asindicated by the speaker terminals on the rear of theSystem.• The speakers are magnetically shielded to avoid colordistortions on TVs. However, if not installed properly,it may cause color distortions. So, pay attention to thefollowing when installing the speakers.– When placing the speakers near a TV set, turn off theTV’s main power switch or unplug it before installing thespeakers.Then wait at least 30 minutes before turning on the TV’smain power switch again.– Some TVs may still be affected even though you havefollowed the above instructions. If this happens, movethe speakers away from the TV.• You cannot connect a computer and JVC Everio camcorderto the USB terminals of the System.• Noise and static electricity may stop the USB device sound.In this case, disconnect and connect the USB device againafter turning off the System.PreparationsTo change the color system and scanning mode:• You cannot change the scanning mode to progressive in thefollowing cases:– When your TV does not support the progressive videoinput.– When you have not connected your TV to the Systemusing a component video cord or an HDMI cable.Basic OperationsSetting the ECO (Ecology) Mode:• If you turn on the Daily Timer or the Recording Timer (forNX-D7) while the ECO mode is activated, the ECO modeis canceled.Listening to a Disc/USB DeviceJVC bears no responsibility for any loss of data in the USBmass storage class device while using this System.• When connecting with a USB cable, use the USB 2.0 cablewhose length is less than 1 m.• You can connect a USB device such as a USB flash memorydevice, hard disk drive, multimedia card reader, etc. to thisSystem.• When you change the source to “DVD/CD” or “USB,” itmay take a while to activate the source.• While the System is reading a disc, the source may notchange to “USB1” or “USB2” properly. In this case, press 7,then change the source to “USB1” or “USB2.”• On some discs, the actual operations may be different fromwhat is explained in this manual due to the programmingand disc structure; such differences are not a malfunctionof this System.• The total number of tracks (files) that the System can detectis 4 000 for “DVD/CD” and “USB1,” and 2 000 for “USB2”.• The System recognizes up to...– 999 tracks (files) per group.– 99 groups per disc, “USB 1” (for NX-D7), and “USB” (forNX-D5/NX-D3/NX-DC3).– 999 groups per “USB 2.”Unplayable files are also counted in the total file number.Playable files which do not belong to any groups arerecognized as files of group 1.Program Play/Random Play/Group Play:• Program is cleared in the following cases:– When the System is turned off (standby).– For USB2 (NX-D7), when the source is changed to USB1.• While programming steps...– Your entry will be ignored if you have tried to programan item number that does not exist (for example,selecting track 14 on a disc that only has 12 tracks).– For MP3/WMA/WAV files, you can program up to 99files.– You cannot select the 151st or later tracks.Playing Repeatedly:• A-B Repeat cannot be used for MP3/WMA/WAV/JPEG/MPEG-1/MPEG-2/ASF/DivX files and some DVDs.To select the audio track:• On some discs/files, you cannot change audio languageduring playback.Zoom:• While zoomed in, the picture may look coarse.On-screen OperationsOperating the On-screen Bar:• A-B Repeat is available only within the same title/originalprogram/track.Setup MenuGeneral:• If the upper and lower parts of the menu are cut off, adjustthe picture size control of the TV.LANGUAGE menu:• When the language you have selected for “MENULANGUAGE,” “AUDIO LANGUAGE,” or “SUBTITLE” isnot recorded, the original language is used as the initiallanguage.PICTURE menu—MONITOR TYPE:• Even if “4:3 PS,” “4:3 MULTI PS” is selected, the screensize may become 4:3 letter box while playing a disc/file.This depends on how the discs are recorded.• When you select “16:9 NORMAL,” “16:9 MULTINORMAL” or “16:9 AUTO,” “16:9 MULTI AUTO” fora picture whose aspect ratio is 4:3, the picture changesslightly due to the process of converting the picture width.OTHERS menu—ON SCREEN GUIDE:• The setup menu and on-screen bar will be displayed (andrecorded) even if this function is set to “OFF.” Subtitlesand the information for zoom-in always appear on thedisplay regardless of this setting.Timer OperationsGeneral:• When the System is on standby, you cannot set DailyTimer or Recording Timer (for NX-D7).Setting the Clock:• “0:00” will flash on the display until you set the clock.• The clock may gain or lose 1 to 2 minutes per month. Ifthis happens, reset the clock.Setting the Daily Timer:• If you do not specify the preset station or track numbercorrectly while setting a timer, the currently selectedstation or the first track will be played when the timer isactivated.• When you unplug the power cord or if a power failureoccurs, the timer will be canceled. You need to set theclock first, then the timer again.• If you set DVD Video as the source, Daily Timer will notwork correctly.• If you set the Sleep Timer after Daily Timer starts playingthe selected source, Daily Timer is canceled.Listening to the Radio• If you store a new station into an occupied preset number,the previously stored station in that number will be erased.• When you unplug the power cord or if a power failureoccurs, the preset stations will be erased in a few days. Ifthis happens, preset the stations again.[European Union only]Thank you for purchasing a JVC product.CA-NXD7/CA-NXD5/CA-NXD3/CA-NXDC3SpeakersystemSpeakersystemCA-NXD7/CA-NXD5/CA-NXD3/CA-NXDC3Mains (AC) Line Instruction(Excluding Australian models)CAUTION for mains (AC) lineBEFORE PLUGGING IN, do check that your mains (AC)line voltage corresponds with the position of the voltageselector switch provided on the outside of this equipmentand, if different, reset the voltage selector switch, to preventfrom a damage or risk of fire/electric shock.• Use a screwdriver to slide the voltage selector to thecorrect voltage in the area you are plugging in the unit.Listening to a Tape (for NX-DC3)• If you open the slide door on the top of the main unitduring playback, the playback stops.• You cannot pause tape playback.Sound & Picture AdjustmentsAdjusting the Sound:• This function also affects the sound through theheadphones.Setting My Sound (for DVD/CD and USB1):• My Sound setup is prohibited for certain file format.• My Sound setup is prohibited during recording/editing orwhile Mic Mixing is activated.Enjoying KaraokeGeneral:• You cannot enjoy all the Karaoke functions with DVD-VR, video files and picture files.• While the System is turned on, connecting a microphoneautomatically activates Mic Mixing and all the Karaokerelated functions.• While the System is turned off, connecting a microphonedoes not activate Mic Mixing and any other Karaokerelated function. In this case, press MIC MIX after turningthe System on.• You cannot activate Mic Mixing during My Sound setup.• While recording, connecting microphones does notautomatically activate Mic Mixing.Adjusting the Sound Track for Karaoke:• Vocal Masking is not applied to the optical digital outputsignals through the OPTICAL DIGITAL OUTPUTterminal.• For some music files, Vocal Masking does not provide thecorrect effect.Recording OperationsRecording from a Disc (for NX-D7):• When you press USB REC, “×1 ONLY” appears on thedisplay in the following cases:– While Program Play or Random Play is selected.– When “HQ REC” is selected for the transfer rate.Editing OperationsEditing Titles to Tracks or Groups:• When a track is recorded, a title is automatically given tothe track.
