11OPERATIONCAUTION: Always stop tractor com-pletely, as described above, before leav-ing the operator's position; to emptygrass catcher, etc.TO USE THROTTLE CONTROL (See Fig. 6)Always operate engine at full throttle.• Operating engine at less than full throttle reduces thebattery charging rate.• Full throttle offers the best bagging and mower perfor-mance.TO USE CHOKE CONTROL (See Fig. 6)Use choke control whenever you are starting a cold engine.Do not use to start a warm engine.• To engage choke control, pull knob out. Slowly pushknob in to disengage. The operation of any tractor can result in foreign objects thrown into the eyes, which can resultin severe eye damage. Always wear safety glasses or eye shields while operating your tractor orperform ing any adjustments or repairs. We recom mend a wide vision safety mask over spectaclesor stan dard safety glasses.00155HOW TO USE YOUR TRACTORTO SET PARKING BRAKE (See Fig. 6)Your tractor is equipped with an operator presence sens-ing switch. When engine is running, any attempt by theoperator to leave the seat without first setting the parkingbrake will shut off the engine.• Depress brake pedal into full “BRAKE” position andhold.• Place parking brake lever in “ENGAGED” positionand release pressure from brake pedal. Pedal shouldremain in “BRAKE” position. Make sure parking brakewill hold tractor secure.STOPPING (See Fig. 6)MOWER BLADES -• To stop mower blades, move attachment clutch switchto “DISENGAGED” position.GROUND DRIVE -• To stop ground drive, depress brake pedal into full“BRAKE” position.IMPORTANT: FORWARD AND REVERSE DRIVE PEDALSRETURN TO NEUTRAL POSITION WHEN NOT DEPRESSED.ENGINE -• Move throttle control to slow position.NOTE: Failure to move throttle control to slow position andallowing engine to idle before stopping may cause engineto “backfire”.• Turn ignition key to “OFF” position and remove key.Always remove key when leaving tractor to preventunauthorized use.• Never use choke to stop engine.IMPORTANT: LEAVING THE IGNITION SWITCH IN ANYPOSITION OTHER THAN "OFF" WILL CAUSE THE BATTERYTO BE DISCHARGED, (DEAD).NOTE: Under certain conditions when tractor is standingidle with the engine running, hot engine exhaust gases maycause “browning” of grass. To eliminate this possibility, al-ways stop engine when stopping tractor on grass areas.TO ADJUST MOWER CUTTING HEIGHT(See Fig. 6)The cutting height is controlled by turning the height ad-justment knob in desired direction.• Turn knob clockwise ( ) to raise cutting height.• Turn knob counterclockwise ( ) to lower cuttingheight. The cutting height range is approximately 1-1/2" to 4". Theheights are measured from the ground to the blade tip withthe engine not running. These heights are approximate andmay vary depending upon soil conditions, height of grassand types of grass being mowed.02528PARKING BRAKE“ENGAGED”POSITION“DISENGAGED”POSITIONATTACHMENT CLUTCH LEVERPULL OUT TO “ENGAGE”FIG. 6CHOKECON TROLBRAKE PEDAL“DRIVE” POSITIONPUSH IN TO“DISENGAGE”IGNITIONKEYTHROTTLECONTROL“BRAKE”POSI TIONREVERSEPEDALFORWARDPEDALHEIGHTADJUSTMENTKNOBCRUISE CON-TROL LEVERTO MOVE FORWARD AND BACKWARD (SeeFig. 6)The direction and speed of movement is controlled by theforward and reverse drive pedals.• Start tractor and release parking brake.• Slowly depress forward or reverse drive pedal to beginmovement. Ground speed increases the further downthe pedal is depressed.TO USE CRUISE CONTROLThe cruise control feature can be used for forward travelonly.SYSTEM CHARACTERISTICSThe cruise control should only be used while mowing ortransporting on relatively smooth, straight surfaces. Otherconditions such as trimming at slow speeds may cause thecruise control to disengage. Do not use the cruise controlon slopes, rough terrain or while trimming or turning.• With forward drive pedal depressed to desired speed, move cruise control lever forward to “SET” position andhold while lifting your foot off the pedal, then releasethe cruise control lever.• To disengage the cruise control, pull the lever backwardto “OFF” position, or fully depress the brake pedal.
