13OPERATIONSAFE OPERATING PRECAUTIONSTo safely realize the full potential of this pump, you need a completeunderstanding of its operation and a certain amount of practice withitscontrols.Before operating the pump for the first time, please review theIMPORTANT SAFETY INFORMATION on page 5 and the chapter titledBEFORE OPERATION.For your safety, avoid starting or operating the engine in an enclosedarea, such as a garage. Your engine's exhaust contains poisonouscarbon monoxide gas that can collect rapidly in an enclosed area andcause illness or death.WARNINGExhaust contains poisonous carbon monoxidegas that can build up to dangerous levels inclosed areas. Breathing carbon monoxide cancause unconsciousness or death.Never run the engine in a closed, or even partlyclosed area where people may be present.Pump only fresh water that is not intended for human consumption.Pumping flammable liquids, such as gasoline or fuel oils, can result in afire or explosion, causing serious injury. Pumping sea water, beverages,acids, chemical solutions, or any other liquid that promotes corrosioncan damage the pump.
