Safety SystemThe machine is equipped with a safety systemthat prevents starting or driving under thefollowing conditions.The engine can only be started when:• the mower deck is disengaged.• the park brake is engaged.Make daily inspections to make sure that thesafety system works by trying to start the enginewhen one of the conditions is not met. Changethe conditions and try again.Make sure the engine stops when the park brakeis not engaged and the operator leaves theseated position.Make sure the engine stops if the mower bladesare engaged and the driver leaves the seatedposition.Battery and Engine AccessThe operator cushion can be lowered or removedfor access to the battery and engine.To lower the cushion, release the latch at thelower right side and tip the cushion down.To remove, tip the lowered the cushion up slightlyand lift the back edge up.If the battery is too weak to start the engine, itmust be recharged.Jumper Cable Use1. Connect each end of the RED cable to thePOSITIVE (+) terminal on each battery, takingcare not to short against chassis.2. Connect one end of the BLACK cable to theNEGATIVE (-) terminal of the fully chargedbattery.3. Connect the other end of the BLACK cableto a good CHASSIS GROUND on the mowerwith the discharged battery, away from thefuel tank and battery.To remove cables, reverse order1. Remove BLACK cable first from chassis andthen from the fully charged battery.2.
