- 7 -• On logs that are not square, place thelongest portion of the log closest to thebeam and the most square end againstthe splitter wedge.• Do not attempt to stabilize logs with legs orfeet while operating. Moving parts can cutoff or crush body parts.• Split logs end to end in the direction of, notagainst, the grain.• Keep fingers and hands away from cracksin logs while splitting. These can quicklyclose and pinch or crush body parts.• ALWAYS maintain unit in safe operatingcondition. A damaged or worn out mufflercan cause fire or explosion.• If your log splitter is equipped with aninternal-combustion engine and intendedfor use near any unimproved forest, brush,or grass covered land, the engine exhaustshould be equipped with a spark arrestor.Comply with applicable local, state, andfederal codes. Have appropriate fire-fighting equipment available.Personal Protection• Wear adequate safety shoes andprotective gloves.• DO NOT wear loose clothing or jewelryand tie back hair that may get caught inmoving parts.• Protect eyes, face and head from objectsthat may be thrown from unit. Wearappropriate hearing protection. Alwayswear safety goggles or safety glasses withside shields when operating.Safe Fueling• Never use the machine indoors or inspaces lacking proper ventilation. Theexhaust fumes contain carbon monoxide,an odorless and poisonous lethal gas.• Use only an approved gasoline containerwith an appropriately sized dispensingspout.• NEVER store the machine or fuel containerwhere there is an open flame, spark, orpilot light such as on a water heater orother appliance.WARNING! Gasoline is extremelyflammable and the vapors are explosive.To avoid personal injury or propertydamage use extreme care in handlinggasoline.• Extinguish all cigarettes, cigars, pipes,and other sources of ignition.• ALWAYS allow engine to cool beforeservicing.• NEVER fill fuel tank when engine is runningor hot from operation.• NEVER fill or drain fuel tank indoors.• Replace fuel cap securely and clean upspilled fuel.• Never fill fuel containers inside a vehicle oron a truck or trailer bed with a plastic liner.Always place containers on the groundaway from your vehicle before filling.• Keep the nozzle in contact with the rim ofthe fuel tank or container opening at alltimes until fueling is complete. Do not usea nozzle lock-open device.• If fuel is spilled on clothing, changeclothing immediately.• Towing and Transport• Do not move the unit up or down a hillby hand. Use a tow vehicle with suitablebraking system.• Use extra care when towing unit. DO NOTexceed 45 mph (72.4 kph).• ALWAYS stop engine, lock beam inhorizontal position and close fuel shut-offvalve when transporting unit.• Check local, state and federal laws beforetowing. Any modifications required to meetthese laws are the responsibility of thepurchaser.• Safety chains MUST be attached to vehiclewhen towing unit.• Disconnect unit from tow vehicle beforeusing.Maintenance and Storage• Clean debris and chaff from engine,cylinder head fins, blower housing rotatingscreen, and muffler areas. If the engineis equipped with a spark arrester muffler,clean and inspect it regularly (followmanufacturer’s service instructions).Replace, if damaged.• Never store the equipment with fuel inthe tank inside a building where fumesmight reach an open flame or spark. Allowthe engine to cool before storing in anyenclosure.• If the fuel tank has to be drained forstorage perform this task outdoors. |
