Adjusting the Mower DeckLeveling DeckAdjust the deck while the mower is on a levelsurface. Make sure the tires are inflated tothe correct pressure. See Tire Pressures inMaintenance section. If tires are under or overinflated, the deck cannot be properly adjusted.Faulty mower deck adjustments will cause anuneven mowing result.Four slots control the height and pitch of themower deck. Adjust the deck slightly higher in therear.NOTE: To insure precision in the levelingprocedure, the mower deck drive belt must beinstalled prior to leveling the deck.1. Wear heavy gloves. Turn each outer blade tipto align with the deck side-to-side.2. Measure from the floor surface up to thebottom of the blade tip on the discharge sideof the mower deck. Record this measurement.Move to the opposite side; check thatmeasurement is the same. If adjustment isrequired, loosen the locknut and adjust boltup until both side-to-side measurements areequal. Retain measurement.3. Turn both outer blades to align with the deckfront-to-rear. Reposition the rear mountingbolts up or down until the rear blade tips arepositioned 1/8" to 3/8" higher in the rear thanthe front blade tips.4. Confirm measurements once again. Theblade tip height must be equal side-to-side. Inthe rear, blade tips must be 1/8" to 3/8" higherthan the front measurement. In the front, blade tips must be equal from side-to-side.NOTE: This will place the mower deck in astandard measurement position. Depending onthe type of grass being mowed or environmentalconditions, more adjustments may be required toget the desired cut.Belt Installation1. If the pump is not locked in the extendedposition, repeat Steps 4 and 5 from the aboveinstructions.2. Slip the belt over the fans and route itbetween the idler pulleys.3. Place the belt over the right and left idlerpulleys.4. Place the belt on the engine pulley.5. Use the breaker bar to hold the tension off thebelt while removing the implement used as abrace in the plate.6. Replace and secure clutch stop.7. Reinstall the fan shields.8. Reinstall the deck belt.Anti-scalp RollersAnti-scalp rollers are properly adjusted when theyare slightly off of the ground when the deck is atthe desired cutting height. Anti-scalp rollers keepthe deck in the proper position to help preventscalping in most terrain conditions. Do not adjustthe rollers to support the deck.IMPORTANT INFORMATION Adjust anti-scalprollers with the mower on a flat level surface. To avoid deck damage, the anti-scalp rollersmust not be adjusted to support the deck.26MAINTENANCE
