MAINTENANCEEnglish – 17Fine adjustment of the idle speed TAdjust the idle speed using the idle adjustment screw T, ifit is necessary to readjust. First turn the idle adjustmentscrew T clockwise until the cutting attachment starts torotate. Then turn the screw anticlockwise until the cuttingattachment stops. The idle speed is correctly adjustedwhen the engine will run smoothly in every position. Theidle speed should also be well below the speed at whichthe cutting attachment starts to rotate. The blades mustalso remain stationary when the choke control is in thestart throttle position.Correctly adjusted carburetorWhen the carburetor is correctly adjusted the machineaccelerates without hesitation and burbles a little atmaximum speed. It is also important that the blades donot move when the engine is idling or when the chokecontrol is in the start position. If the low speed jet L is settoo lean it may cause starting difficulties and pooracceleration. If the L-needle is set too rich it will result inacceleration problems or too low a working speed.MufflerCAUTION! Some mufflers are fitted with a catalyticconverter. See chapter on Technical data to see whetheryour machine is fitted with a catalytic converter. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise level and todirect the exhaust gases away from the operator. Theexhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which maycause fire if directed against dry and combustiblematerial. Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestorscreen. If your machine has this type of muffler, youshould clean the screen at least once a week. This is bestdone with a wire brush. On mufflers without a catalytic converter the screenshould be cleaned weekly, or replaced if necessary. Onmufflers fitted with a catalytic converter the screen shouldbe checked, and if necessary cleaned, monthly. If thescreen is damaged it should be replaced. If the screenis frequently blocked, this can be a sign that theperformance of the catalytic converter is impaired.Contact your dealer to inspect the muffler. A blockedscreen will cause the machine to overheat and result indamage to the cylinder and piston. See also instructionsunder the heading Maintenance.CAUTION! Never use a machine with a defective muffler.! WARNING! If the idle speed cannot beadjusted so that the cutting attachmentstops, contact your dealer/serviceworkshop. Do not use the machine untilit has been correctly adjusted orrepaired.! WARNING! Mufflers fitted with catalyticconverters get very hot during use andremain so for some time after stopping. This also applies at idle speed. Contactcan result in burns to the skin.Remember the risk of fire!
