4SAFETY INSTRUCTIONSGLOVESGloves should be worn when necessary,e.g., when fitting cutting attachments.HEARING PROTECTIONWear hearing protection that providesadequate noise reduction.EYE PROTECTIONAlways wear approved eye protection. Ifyou use a visor then you must also wearapproved protective goggles. Approvedprotective goggles must comply withstandard ANSI Z87.1.BOOTSWear sturdy, non--slip boots.CLOTHINGWear clothes made of a strong fabric andavoid loose clothing that can catch ontwigs and branches. Always wear heavy,long pants. Do not wear jewelry, shortssandals or go barefoot. Secure hair so it isabove shoulder level.Personal protective equipmentWARNING: Listen out for warn-ing signals or shouts when you arewearing hearing protection. Alwaysremove your hearing protection assoon as the engine stops.IMPORTANT! Whenever you use a lawnedger, you must wear personal protectiveequipment that is approved by the authori-ties. Personal protective equipment doesnot eliminate the risk of accidents, but itcan reduce the effects of an injury in theevent of an accident. Ask your dealer forhelp when choosing protective equipment.FIRST AID KITAlways have a first aid kit nearby.Machine’s safety equipmentThis section describes the machine’s safe-ty equipment, its purpose, and how checksand maintenance should be carried out toensure that it operates correctly. See the“Know your trimmer ” section to locatewhere this equipment is positioned on yourmachine.The life span of the machine can be reducedand the risk of accidents can increase ifmachine maintenance is not carried outcorrectly and if service and/or repairs are notcarried out professionally. If you need furtherinformation please contact your nearest ser-vicing dealer.Throttle lockThe throttle lock is designed to prevent ac-cidental operation of the throttle control.When you press the lock (A) (i.e. when yougrasp the handle) it releases the throttlecontrol (B). When you release the handlethe throttle control and the throttle lock bothmove back to their original positions. Thismovement is controlled by two independentreturn springs. This arrangement meansthat the throttle control is automaticallylocked at the idle setting.Stop switchMake sure the engine stops when you pushand hold the stop switch.WARNING: Never use a machinethat has faulty safety equipment!Carry out the inspection, mainte-nance and service routines listed inthis section.AB
