A mufflerfitted with a catalytic converter is also designed to reduceharmful exhaust gases.In countries that have a warm and dry climate there is asignificant risk of fire. We therefore fit certain mufflers witha spark arrestor screen. Check whether the muffler onyour machine is fitted with this kind of screen.For mufflers it is very important that you follow theinstructions on checking, maintaining and servicing yourmachine.Never use a machine that has a faulty muffler.Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached tothe machine.If the muffler on your machine is fitted with a sparkarrestor screen this must be cleaned regularly. A blockedscreen will cause the engine to overheat and may lead toserious damage.Cutting equipmentThis section describes how to choose and maintain yourcutting equipment in order to:• Obtain maximum cutting performance.• Extend the life of cutting equipment.! WARNING! Never use a cuttingattachment without an approved guard.See the chapter on Technical data. If anincorrect or faulty guard is fitted this cancause serious personal injury.! WARNING! Never use the machineindoors or in spaces lacking properventilation. Exhaust fumes containcarbon monoxide, an odorless,poisonous and highly dangerous gas.! WARNING! Mufflers fitted with catalyticconverters get very hot during use andremain so for some time after stopping.This also applies at idle speed. Contactcan result in burns to the skin.Remember the risk of fire!! WARNING! The inside of the mufflercontain chemicals that may becarcinogenic. Avoid contact with theseelements in the event of a damagedmuffler.! WARNING! Bear in mind that:The exhaust fumes from the engine arehot and may contain sparks which canstart a fire. Never start the machineindoors or near combustible material!IMPORTANT!Only use cutting attachments with the guards werecommend! See the chapter on Technical data.Refer to the instructions for the cutting attachment tocheck the correct way to load the cord and the correctcord diameter.! WARNING! Always stop the enginebefore doing any work on the cuttingattachment. This continues to rotate evenafter the throttle has been released.Ensure that the cutting attachment hasstopped completely and disconnect thespark plug cap before you start to workon it.! WARNING! A faulty cutting attachmentmay increase the risk of accidents.
