MAINTENANCEEnglish – 33Vibration damping systemRegularly check the vibration damping units for cracks ordeformation.Make sure the vibration damping units are securelyattached to the engine unit and handle unit.Stop switchStart the engine and make sure the engine stops whenyou move the stop switch to the stop setting.MufflerNever use a machine that has a faulty muffler.Regularly check that the muffler is securely attached tothe machine. Some mufflers are equipped with a special spark arrestorscreen. If your machine has this type of muffler, youshould clean the screen at least once a week. This is bestdone with a wire brush. A blocked screen will cause theengine to overheat and may lead to serious damage.Note! The screen must be replaced if it is damaged. If thescreen is blocked the machine will overheat and this willcause damage to the cylinder and piston. Never use amachine with a muffler that is in poor condition. Neveruse a muffler if the spark arrestor screen is missingor defective. The muffler is designed to reduce the noise level and todirect the exhaust gases away from the operator. Theexhaust gases are hot and can contain sparks, which maycause fire if directed against dry and combustiblematerial.A muffler equipped with a catalytic converter significantlyreduces the amount of hydrocarbons (HC), nitrogenoxides (NO) and aldehydes in the exhaust fumes. Carbonmonoxide (CO), which is poisonous and odorless, is nothowever reduced! Consequently, never work in anenclosed or badly ventilated area. Good air circulationshould always prevail when working in snowy hollows, ravines or in confined conditions.
