Plug the adapter into the mains.Make sure that the instrument has been calibrated for pH beforetaking pH measurements (see page 18).For HI8519 only:• Connect the pH electrode to the meter and switchthe instrument on by pressing the ON/OFF key.• Immerse the electrode tip (4 cm/1½") into the sample and shakebriefly.• Take the temperature of the solution with aChecktempC or a glass thermometer (e.g.25°C).• Press the °C key to display temperature settings onthe LCD.• Adjust the Temperature °C knob to display thetemperature of the sample.• Press the pH key to display the pH measurement.• The display shows the pH value of the test solutioncompensated for temperature. For HI8417, HI8520, HI8521 only:• Connect the electrode and the temperatureprobe (if automatic temperature compensa-tion is desired).• Press the ON/OFF key to turn the meter on. Themeter will automatically default to the pH measure-ment mode.• Immerse the electrode and the temperature probein the sample and shake briefly. Wait for 30 sec-onds before taking readings.• The display shows the pH reading compensated fortemperature.ONOFF°C°CpHpH°CONOFF
