MeasurementProcedureTurn the meter on by pressing the button.All tags will be displayed. The display willshow “Add rEF” with “Press” blinking toindicate the meter is ready to calibrate.Open the cover and insert thesealed glycerol reference cuvetteinto the meter. Close the cover.Press the button to calibrate themeter. Three lines will blink to showthat calibration is taking place.The display will then show “Add Cu”with “Press” blinking when the meterhas successfully been calibrated.Fill a clean, dry cuvette with 10 mL ofmaple syrup sample and replace the cap.Open the cover and insert the cuvetteinto the meter. Close the cover.Press the button to take themeasurement. Three lines will blink toshow that a measurement is taking place.The meter displays the percent lighttransmittance of the maple syrup. Totake another sample reading, pressthe button. To turn off, press and holdthe button for 3 seconds. The meterautomaticallyturns off after 10 minutes.Recommendations for UsersBefore using Hanna products, make sure that they are entirely suitable for yourspecific application and for the environment in which they are used. If service isrequired, contact your local Hanna office. If under warranty, report the modelnumber, date of purchase, serial number and the nature of the problem. Ifthe repair is not covered by the warranty, you will be notified of the chargesincurred. If the instrument is to be returned to Hanna Instruments, firstobtain a Return Goods Authorization number from the Technical Servicedepartment and then send it with shipping costs prepaid. When shippingany instrument, make sure it is properly packed for complete protection.Battery ManagementTo conserve battery, the instrument shuts down after10 minutes of non-use. To replace the battery, turn theinstrument off by holding the button until the meter shutsoff. Turn the instrument upside down and remove thebattery cover with a screwdriver. Remove the battery fromits location and replace it with a new one, inserting thenegative end first. Replace the battery cover and screw.Tips for an AccurateMeasurementWhen taking measurements, the outside of the cuvettemust be dry and free of syrup, fingerprints, oil, or dirt.Wipe it thoroughly with a lint-free cloth prior to insertion.Make sure cuvettes and syringes are completelydry before using. Excess water will leave streaksin the syrup sample which may affect results.Dispense or pour the sample slowly.
