5971-4258Sep 2004VRM Replacement for the rp24xxDC-to-DC Converter InstallationThis sheet contains instructions for replacement of the DC-to-DC Converters in theserver. These new DC-to-DC Converter modules are installed when new processors areinstalled. The DC-to-DC Converters are replacements for the existing modules thatshould be returned HP.Special instructions concerning the DC-to-DC Converters are shipped in this upgrade kit.Read and understand the instructions before installing the DC-to-DC Converters. Whenyou unpack the new DC-to-DC Converters, save the shipping carton and packingmaterials. The old DC-to-DC Converters must be removed from the server and should bereturned to HP. Package the removed modules in the used packing materials and ship viaground transportation.Important Steps:• The DC-to-DC Converter modules and the system board are ElectrostaticDischarge (ESD) sensitive and can be damaged during installation. Follow theinstructions in the ESD kit to ensure proper ESD procedures are used.• Power is applied to server circuits even when the power switch is set to OFF.Disconnect the power source before removing DC-to-DC Converters from serverconnectors.• Please return the old DC-to-DC Converter modules to HP. Turn off and disconnect power from the server.WARNING Dangerous voltages may be present if power isconnected. For your protection, disconnect the server from thepower source before proceeding.Step 2. Remove the top cover to allow access to the system board and internalcomponents.Step 3. ESD precautions are important. Use the ESD wrist strap when touching servercomponents.Step 4. Locate the master and slave DC-to-DC Converter modules to be removed.
