59www.gateway.comReplacing the system batteryIf the computer clock does not keep time or the settings in the BIOS Setup utility are notsaved when you turn off your computer, replace the system battery. Use a battery of thesame size and voltage as the original battery that was in your computer.To replace the battery:1 Shut down your computer.2 Open the case by following the instructions in “Opening the case” on page 54.3 Locate the old battery on the system board and note its orientation. You will needto install the new battery the same way.4 While pushing down on the battery release tab, place the edge of a small flat-headscrewdriver under the battery and lift the battery up until it pops out of the socket.5 Make sure that the positive (+) side of the new battery is facing up, then press thebattery into the socket until it snaps into place.6 Close the case by following the instructions in “Closing the case” on page 56.7 Reconnect all external cables and the power cord.8 Turn on your computer.Warning Danger of explosion if battery is incorrectly replaced.Replace only with the same or equivalent type recommended by themanufacturer. Dispose of used batteries following the manufacturer’sinstructions.
