A frequency not used by aradio station in your area might be used by a stationelsewhere. As you drive, you may notice changes in thebackground static even though there is no FM stationusing that channel. You may notice this as you drivethrough intersections where certain kinds of trafficlights or other municipal electronic systems areoperating. You might also notice this effect when theterrain changes, allowing distant stations to be receivedby your car stereo that were not received when youmade your initial frequency selection. These and othersources of electrical interference may make it necessaryto look for another frequency. The distance between the 12-Volt adapter, theStreetPilot, and the vehicle antenna may also affect thenoise level. Vehicles with antennas located far away, such as a rear-mounted antenna, may experience moreinterference from outside noise sources than vehicleswith front mounted antennas.
